Robert Solinger – Sunday July 12, 2020

Posted by KCSi News in Obits on July 13, 2020 4:56 pm / no comments

Robert (Bob) Russell Solinger 90 passed away July 12, 2020.

Robert was born October 10, 1929 in Jamestown, ND to Edward and Pauline (Koenig) Solinger.

He went to school in Nortonville, ND and graduated in 1948. After this he attended Jamestown College. He loved sports and was on the football team. He graduated in 1952 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. While in college he met the love of his life. Therese (Wanzek) and Robert married right after graduation in 1952. Robert was then drafted into the army. He spent 18 months in Berlin, Germany. He received the rank of Sargent upon discharge.

They lived in Nortonville and helped run the family lumber business. In 1960, he purchased the lumberyard from his father. Robert was very ambitious. Supplies came in by box car and needed to be unloaded by hand. I don’t know if many people have tried to pick up a bag of cement or a bundle of shingles, just know, they’re heavy. Years later, he finally got a forklift. Other jobs were selling hail insurance and setting up grain bins. I bet many people from the area can say they worked for Bob on the grain bin crew. Most evenings were spent drawing house plans at the dining room table.

January 1, 1986 Robert purchased the Edgeley lumber yard. He had a strong work ethic. He always said, “If you have to do something, you might as well do it right.” His word was as good as a contract.

He was an active member of the Holy Spirit church in Nortonville. He took pride in being able to care for the lawn. He had a strong sense of family, faith, and community.

Robert and Therese were blessed with 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. They have been married for 68 years.

In the retirement years he was able to enjoy golf and had many great golfing friends. We were fortunate to take family trips and the parents had more adventures to Jamaica, Bahama, Mexico, and golfing outings with special friends. Arthritis slowed him greatly, but he enjoyed meeting with family and friends at the Dairy Queen in Jamestown.

Proceeded in death by his parents Ed and Pauline, 4 brothers: Archie, Clarence, James, Harold, and his daughter: Patti.

He is survived by his spouse Therese, 4 Children: Michael (Dianne) Carson City, NV, Sandra (Mike) Devils Lake, ND, Mark (Patricia) Nortonville, ND, and Greg (Melody) Nortonville, ND; Grandchildren: Jesse, Jeremy, Alicia, Nicole, Bryan, Tricia, Taylor, Mina, Veronica, Adam, and Lauren; Great grandchildren: Maya, Michael, Moana, Natalie, Sophia, Michael, Marie, Jacob, Isabelle. He loved his family. He made us know we were each special in our own way. You will always be with us Dad. We will never forget you! Rest in peace.

Love you!

A private family vigil service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, July 17, 2020 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are in the care of Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.
