Update

Sat. Evening Aug 15, 2020

Bismarck, N.D. – On Saturday morning, the North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) experienced a notification issue with the software program that issues COVID-19 test results. A number of individuals who had previously tested negative for COVID-19 and had been notified were electronically notified again of their results.  The issue has been corrected and individuals who have not tested recently should disregard.

“The team is always working to improve the customer experience and get people their results in a more timely and convenient way,” said Duane Schell, Chief Technology Officer with the North Dakota Information Technology Department (NDIT). “As our team was adding additional automation capabilities, the system inadvertently electronically notified individuals who had already received their results.”

Teams from the NDDoH and NDIT are exploring the issue and more information will be provided at the next news conference.

North Dakota health officials have reported 123 new cases of COVID-19 amid an uptick in new cases in the state. Over the past two weeks, the rolling average number of daily new cases has increased by 20, an increase of about 16%. Active cases remained high for the state, with the Department of Health reporting that 1,162 people have active infections. But 55 people are currently hospitalized statewide. During the pandemic, 8,444 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in North Dakota. About 85% of them have recovered, but 121 people have died. The Department of Health reported no new deaths on Saturday.

North Dakota health officials say the state set daily highs for COVID-19 tests and the number of positive screenings, led by a spike of 49 new cases in Stark County. Sherry Adams, executive officer at Southwestern District Health Unit in Dickinson, attributed many of the cases in Stark County to social gatherings. The update lifted total positive cases in the county from 300 to 349. Statewide, health officials confirmed 201 new cases in 28 counties, topping the previous record of 181 cases on Aug. 8. The state for the first time met its goal of 7,000 daily tests, reporting 7,182 screenings from the previous day.
