Judith Ann (Broten) Legge, age 61, of Sanborn, ND, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, July 28 at Sanford Broadway Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota with her loving husband, Scott by her side.  Due to Covid-19, the family will hold a private memorial service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sanborn, ND.  Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Sanborn, ND.

Judy was born March 25, 1959 to Olaf and Helen (Knauss) Broten. She was the youngest of 4 siblings, growing up on a farm near Dazey, North Dakota. She attended school at North Central of Barnes and continued her education at Valley City State University, studying Library Science until her marriage to Scott Legge at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on November 4, 1978. They made their home on a farm six miles north of Eckelson, where they raised crops, cattle and two sons. Judy was very community driven. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of Women Circle 3 and of the Brimer Township Homemakers Club, holding numerous offices through the years, especially secretary, as a testament to her exemplary writing skills. Judy was an extraordinary wife, mother and grandmother, and beloved member of her extended family. There was never a time or place when there was not a wide smile on her face. She was always ready for crafting with her granddaughters, having an intense game of Scrabble with anyone willing to lose, or a friendly game of whist with the family. She shared her passion for cooking and baking with her many friends and family. Whether a short visit or extended stay, there was always a delicious meal, dessert or snack to be shared at the kitchen table. Along with her culinary skills, Judy had an intense passion for reading and music. She loved perusing the mystery and suspense sections of public libraries, picking up the latest Dean Koontz novel and listening and singing along to her favorite bands, The Beatles and The Monkees.

Judy is survived by her husband, Scott; sons Ryan (Andra) Legge of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Evan (Heather) Legge of rural Sanborn, ND; granddaughters Miriam, Katie, Ella and Anna; her sister Louise (Jim Jenness) Broten of Bismarck, ND; and brother Jim (Pat) Broten of Fargo, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Linda Schuler; and nephew David Schuler. In lieu of flowers, Judy’s family would ask that memorial contributions be made to the Sacred Heart Cemetery Board.
