Bismarck NDDoH) – On Saturday morning, the North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) experienced a notification issue with the software program that issues COVID-19 test results. A number of individuals who had previously tested negative for COVID-19 and had been notified were electronically notified again of their results.  The issue has been corrected and individuals who have not tested recently should disregard.

“The team is always working to improve the customer experience and get people their results in a more timely and convenient way,” said Duane Schell, Chief Technology Officer with the North Dakota Information Technology Department (NDIT). “As our team was adding additional automation capabilities, the system inadvertently electronically notified individuals who had already received their results.”

Teams from the NDDoH and NDIT are exploring the issue and more information will be provided at the next news conference.

Jamestown  (CSi) the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission reports that in July this year Jamestown airline boarding were down 59 percent compared to July numbers in 2019.

In July 2020 boardings were at 488 compared to 1210 in July 2019.

Through July 2020 passengers numbers were down 47 percent from 6344 to 3373.

Airline passenger levels in North Dakota and throughout the rest of the country continue their slow recovery from the historically low passenger numbers that were seen at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year.

North Dakota’s eight commercial service airports during the month of July posted a total of 39,660 passengers boardings.   This is higher than the statewide passenger volume that was seen in each of the last three months; however, it amounts to 36% of the passenger levels that North Dakota experienced during the same month last year.

North Dakota Aeronautics Commission, Executive Director, Kyle Wanner says, “North Dakota’s commercial service airports have now seen three consecutive months of increases in passenger levels, available seats, load factors, and number of airline flights Though the trend since the beginning of the pandemic has been positive thus far, we still have a long way to go to reach pre-pandemic passenger numbers and air service levels.  I commend our airports and their employees on their resilience and all of their hard work to ensure that air travel is currently available and as safe as possible for the traveling public.”

TORONTO (AP) — The Canada-U.S. border will remain closed to non-essential travel for at least another month. Friday’s statement by Canada’s Public Safety Minister Bill Blair came a day after Mexico announced a similar measure for its border with the United States. The land border restrictions aimed at controlling the coronavirus pandemic were first announced in March and have been renewed monthly.  Many Canadians fear a reopening. Canada has flattened the epidemic curve while the U.S. has more confirmed cases and deaths from COVID-19 than any other country. Essential cross-border workers like health care professionals, airline crews and truck drivers are still permitted to cross.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say two teens are in custody after escaping from a juvenile detention center in Moorhead and fleeing in a county-owned vehicle. Officials say the teens escaped from the Northwest Juvenile Detention Center Sunday afternoon. A short time later, a passerby reported he saw the two juveniles get into the vehicle and drive away. The teens eluded officers’ attempts to stop the vehicle and fled on Interstate 94 with speeds hitting 100 mph. They were eventually arrested after a sheriff’s deputy used a maneuver to stop the vehicle.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s oil and gas production showed only a slight rise in June, although Department of Natural Resources officials say they expect those numbers to improve in July and August _ if only temporarily. The department’s update showed that the state produced an average of about 890,000 barrels a day in June, up from about 860,000 barrels in April. North Dakota Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms says the department is “pretty confident” that the state topped 1 million barrels a day in July and he expects similar results in August. However, he attributes that to “flush production,” or an increase due to curtailed wells coming back online.

Virus effects on sports…

— Reds players and staff were tested for COVID-19 again as Major League Baseball tried to determine if more than one Cincinnati player has been exposed to the coronavirus. The last two games of a series between the Reds and Pirates were postponed Saturday after the player tested positive. The Pirates worked out Sunday at Great American Ball Park and returned to Pittsburgh, where they will start a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday. The Reds expect to get results of their latest tests on Monday.

UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA’s chief medical officer says there is a narrow path to playing college sports during the coronavirus pandemic and if testing nationwide does not improve, it cannot be done.

Dr. Brian Hainline told CNN late Saturday that “everything would have to line up perfectly” for college sports to be played this fall.

Testing of athletes will need to increase when competition begins. The availability and turnaround times of COVID-19 tests is still a problem in parts of the country. Hainline told CNN: “Right now, if testing stays at it is, there’s no way we can go forward with sports.”

The NCAA has no jurisdiction over major college football, so the conferences have been left to make their own calls. At the highest level of college football, four conferences — including the Big Ten and Pac-12 — have postponed fall sports and are hoping to make them up in some fashion in the spring. Six leagues, including the Atlantic Coast Conference, Southeastern Conference and Big 12, are moving forward with plans to play in the fall.

On Sunday a group of Big Ten football players including Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields posted an online petition on Twitter asking the Big Ten to reinstate the schedule the conference released six days before it pulled the plug. Player parent groups from Iowa, Ohio State, Penn State and Nebraska have sent letters to Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren asking for the conference to reverse course.

NEW YORK (AP) — Kei Nishikori (kay nih-shih-KOHR’-ee) has tested positive for COVID-19 and will pull out of the tune-up tournament at Flushing Meadows that starts next week.

The 2014 U.S. Open runner-up is withdrawing from the Western & Southern Open but he did not say what his plans are for the Grand Slam tournament that begins Aug. 31.

NHL PLAYOFFS-

UNDATED (AP) — The New York Islanders own a three-games-to-none lead in their NHL first-round series against the team that won the Stanley Cup two years ago.

Anders Lee scored for the third straight game to give the Islanders a first-period lead but the Caps tied it when Evgeni Kuznetsov (kooz-NEHT’-sahv) beat Varlamov on a breakaway. That was the only puck to get past Varlamov, who has allowed just five goals in the series.

Braden Holtby stopped 32 shots for the Capitals, who will try to avoid elimination on Tuesday.

Pavelski capped his hat trick by beating Cam Talbot with just under 12 seconds left in regulation.

Crawford blanked Vegas after Shea Theodore’s goal with 6:02 left in the opening stanza.

Hamlin finished second, followed Martin Truex Jr. and Jimmie Johnson.

Kyle Busch had the best shot at catching Elliott, but the defending series champion had rear brake issues with 17 laps to go and was forced to the garage for a lengthy repair.

In World and national news….

(AP) Residents of a suburb near Austin, Texas, are being told to stay indoors as police surround a home where three officers had been shot hours earlier. Police in Cedar Park say a man remains barricaded inside the home with three family members early Monday. Police had been called to the home Sunday after a woman reported her son had kicked in a door. When officers responded, they were met with gunfire. Police say all three officers are in stable condition and their injuries aren’t considered life-threatening. Police have said that they hoped that the unidentified suspect would surrender peacefully.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Videos posted online appear to show a man punched and kicked unconscious by demonstrators just blocks away from a peaceful protest in Portland, Oregon. News outlets report the man had been driving a truck that crashed downtown Sunday night. Afterward, the man is seen sitting in the street. He appears to be punched and kicked in the head by demonstrators. A police spokesperson told The Oregonian that the man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Market benchmarks in London, Frankfurt, Shanghai and Hong Kong advanced. Data showed Japan’s economy shrank 27.8% from a year earlier in April-June. Investment and exports declined. Investors in Asia are awaiting central bank meetings this week in China, Indonesia and the Philippines, with few other market-moving events in sight. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Nearly three-dozen victims or survivors plan to tell their stories before the man known as the Golden State Killer is formally sentenced to life in prison. Some plan to tell of their pain during an extraordinary four days of hearings starting Tuesday. Others will talk of their healing since Joseph DeAngelo terrorized much of California more than four decades ago.
