Jamestown  (CSi)  The Jamestown Public School Board Monday, reviewed the instructional plan.

Superintendent Dr. Robert Lech  reported, that the instructional team has  met recently, to review data and trends to make an instructional plan decision.

It said, “The team fully recognizes that there will never be consensus amongst all stakeholders related to the selection of instructional plans. It is important to note, however, that the team had a great debate around both staying in Instructional Plan 2 (K-5 full face-to-face and hybrid in 6-12) and moving to Instructional Plan 1 (K-12 full face-to-face) ultimately created a staggered approach.”

With Instructional Plan 2 there is the  the possibility of exemptions for some instances of quarantine, there is a lesser likelihood of larger groups of staff and students going into quarantine.

The plan does not eliminate close contacts, but rather simply allows for an exemption to quarantine in schools for students and staff if close contact investigation, the administrator would need to determine close contacts, which includes those that are exempt.

Dr. Lech says instructional plan meetings will be held  every other week and review data to continue making instructional plans, again this week.

Jamestown  (Chamber)  The chamber Young Professionals of Jamestown and the Chamber Ambassadors recently recognized Heartland Heating and Cooling as the October Business of the Month Award recipient for their outstanding customer service and continued commitment to the community.

The nomination stated, “My air conditioner quit working on a Friday after 4, I called several other businesses and they could not get me in until the following week. Called Heartland and they said they would be over in 20 minutes. Another example of their great customer care: I have been waiting almost a month to have a programmable thermostat installed, called them and they had it installed the next day by 9:30am”

The Young Professionals of Jamestown honor businesses that provide superior customer service, exhibit community spirit and provide a positive economic impact to the community.  This award provides recognition throughout the month with a plaque and a recognition banner for the month. Monthly award winners will be considered for the Business of the Year to be awarded at the Chamber’s Annual Banquet in January of 2021.  Business of the Month award nomination forms are available at the Chamber office and online at www.jamestownchamber.com .  Call 701-252-4830 for more information.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The mayor of North Dakota’s largest city says he would like to see a statewide mask mandate and in the meantime is requiring face coverings in most settings that don’t involve family members. Fargo Mayor Dr. Tim Mahoney has been largely supportive of the approach to the pandemic taken by Gov. Doug Burgum, who has left much of the policy making up to local leaders. Mahoney says “something dramatic” needs to be done in Fargo because positivity rates have been as high as 25% at some testing sites in the city and hospital capacity has dwindled down to critical levels.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota’s status as one of the hottest spots in the nation for the coronavirus has prompted some sharp questions about Republican Gov. Doug Burgum’s stressing individual responsibility over mandates and enforcement actions. Even some supporters of Burgum would like to see a tougher approach. Gus Ereth is a 71-year-old retired railroad worker. He says a mask mandate would help. He thinks Burgum is a lock for reelection next month and would like to see him be more aggressive against the virus even if it angers some conservatives. Burgum has said a mask mandate “is not a magic bullet to make this virus go away.”

New Rockfored  (NDHP) –   The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports an individual has died,  after a vehicle rollover, which later became engulfed in flames south of New Rockford about 9:30 Monday evening.

The 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound on County Road 14 when it went into both the east and west ditch. The vehicle vaulted over an approach, landed and began to roll. At some point, the vehicle caught on fire, coming to rest in the ditch. Fire later engulfed the vehicle.

The driver will be identified later as the investigation continues.

Assisting at the scene were,  the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office and New Rockford Fire Department.

WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota regulators say an equipment failure at a well near Watford City led to the release of more than 121,000 gallons of oil. The state’s Oil and Gas Division says it was notified of the spill on Sunday at the Newfield Production Co. well located about 5 miles west of Watford City. Regulators say none of the oil escaped the oil well site. The company reported that it has recovered all but 4,200 gallons of the oil. Regulators say a state inspector has been at the site and is monitoring cleanup.

In world and national news…

MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Epsilon is expected to be at or near hurricane strength as it gets closer to Bermuda by Thursday morning. It is still too early to tell what Epsilon’s track and intensity will be once it’s near the island but the U.S. National Hurricane Center said there is a risk of direct impact. Bermuda residents should closely monitor the storm. The storm remained at maximum sustained winds of 45 mph (75 kph), early Tuesday but additional strengthening is expected. This year’s hurricane season has had so many storms that the hurricane center has turned to the Greek alphabet for storm names after running out of official names.

LONDON (AP) — The British government has given the city of Manchester a noon deadline to agree to tighter coronavirus measures, as Prime Minister Boris Johnson struggles to impose his plan for localized restrictions on restive regions. Johnson’s government has adopted a three-tier system for England, with areas classed as medium, high or very high virus risk. In the top tier, pubs have to close and people are barred from mixing with members of other households. So far only the Liverpool and Lancashire regions of northwest England have been placed in the highest tier. Nearby Greater Manchester, with a population of almost 3 million, has been holding out for more support for workers and businesses affected by the restrictions.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is reporting some progress in advance of a Tuesday deadline for reaching a pre-election deal with President Donald Trump on a new coronavirus relief package, but the same problems bedeviling the effort remain in place despite optimistic talk from the president and his team. Pelosi negotiated for nearly an hour Monday with Trump’s top emissary, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, and a top aide called it productive. But with time nearly up for Congress and the White House to deliver aid to Americans before the election, the question remains: If not now, when?

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Department of Justice is using aggressive tactics against those it has charged in the civil unrest over racism. Those people have been portrayed by President Donald Trump as violent left-wing radicals. The Republican president has used the protests to try to scare white, suburban voters into reelecting him. But an Associated Press review of thousands of pages of court documents from the more than 300 federal arrests made nationwide shows many are people caught up in the moment. Very few of those charged appear to be affiliated with any highly organized extremist groups. Many are young suburban adults with little criminal history, from the very neighborhoods Trump vows to protect.

BERLIN (AP) — Prosecutors say a German businessman and an alleged accomplice have been charged over the delivery of machinery to a company linked to the Russian military in violation of European Union sanctions. The main suspect is charged with seven counts of violating export laws. He is accused of delivering machine tools to a state-run defense company that makes missile systems for the Russian army, of giving the names of sham recipients and making false declarations about the tools’ intended use. Prosecutors said Tuesday that seven deliveries worth a total of about $9.4 million were made between January 2016 and January 2018.
