Valley City  (CSi)  The North Dakota Highway Patrol joined the Valley City Police Department, and the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office on Friday in a vehicle pursuit along I-94 and then in Valley City.

A brief lockdown of Valley City schools was put into effect, stemming from the circumstances of the chase.

Jefferson elementary principal Troy Miller the School Resource Officer notified him just  before noon that authorities were in pursuit of an automobile considered a possible community safety concern.

The schools  kept the students locked in their classrooms until school officials were notified about 12:15-p.m., that the driver was arrested by law enforcement and no longer posed a risk to the community.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol was assisted by Barnes County Sheriff’s deputies and Valley City Police Department officers.

Valley City  (NDHP)  The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports that on Friday, November 20th, 2020 at approximately 11:21 A.M., Law Enforcement was dispatched to a reckless driver traveling north bound on Barnes County Road 21, south of Kathryn. A North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) Trooper located the vehicle, a silver Nissan Cube, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Co. Rd. 21. The suspect did not stop and fled from the trooper, northbound on Co. Rd. 21.

Area law enforcement assisted the Highway Patrol in pursuing the suspect on Barnes County roads, on I-94 and into Valley City. The suspect created a serious risk to the public and officers. The suspect was attempting to drive into oncoming vehicles and brake checking officers. Due to the increase risk to the public, troopers attempted to utilize tire deflation devices and eventually conducted a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver and disabled the suspect vehicle, at approximately 12:11 P.M.

49 year old Kevin Anderson,  of Fort Ransom was taken into custody by the NDHP. Anderson is charged with driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, fleeing in a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and resisting arrest. The incident is under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Anderson is in the custody of the Barnes County Jail.
No motorists were struck by Anderson during the pursuit.
