Bismarck (NDHP) On December 2, 2020, at approximately 9:35 (MT), a ND Highway Patrol Trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Interstate 94 MP 43, 1 mile east of the Belfield Exit, on a 2006 Ford Freestar van. The driver of the vehicle drove off without paying for gas at a business in Gladstone. The driver failed to stop and continued westbound on Interstate 94 and a pursuit was initiated.
Speeds were around 80 MPH. Multiple Law Enforcement agencies responded to assist with the pursuit. The vehicle continued westbound and a tire disabling device was deployed near Interstate 94 Exit 24, flattening three of the four tires. The vehicle continued to drive west at speeds between 30 and 65 MPH. At one point, the vehicle drove into the median and as the driver was bringing the vehicle back onto the roadway, his vehicle sideswiped a Law Enforcement vehicle. The vehicle continued west on three rims and one tire until it entered Montana and Montana authorities took over the pursuit.
At approximately 12 miles into Montana, a Montana Highway Patrol Trooper successfully conducted a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) and the vehicle came to rest in the median. The vehicle became stuck in the median and the driver was taken into custody without incident.
The driver was identified as Travis Hahn of Menomonie, Wisconsin. Mr. Hahn was charged for fleeing a law enforcement officer and driving under revocation in Montana. Charges are pending in North Dakota. Agencies involved: NDHP, Billings County Sheriff’s Department, Golden Valley Sheriff’s Department, ND BCI, ND Game and Fish, Billings County Fire Department, Wibaux County Sheriff’s Department and Montana Highway Patrol.
