Jamestown  (CSi)  Jamestown Police reports that multiple charges are pending against a Jamestown man, stemming from a pursuit on Monday morning, that concluded when a vehicle ended up on Jamestown Reservoir ice.

Assistant Police Chief, Major Justin Blinsky says, 19 year  old Jon Schuldheisz, was arrested and taken  into custody by Jamestown Police, with the assistance of  anglers on the reservoir.

Schuldheisz was taken to Jamestown Regional Medical Center for a medical evaluation and then to the Stutsman County Correctional Center, being held on Monday, pending formal charges.

Blinsky reports that the incident started at 1:44 a.m., Monday when residents reported a stolen pickup. The vehicle was spotted by an individual familiar with the vehicle, being aware it had been stolen in the area of the 1000 block of 4th Street Northwest.  He fled officers in the pickup and the pursuit was  discontinued because the driver was traveling in an extremely reckless manner at high speed.

Shortly after the vehicle was spotted again headed north out of Jamestown on U.S. Highway 52 when another pursuit was engaged.  The vehicle turned east in the vicinity of Pelican Point and crashed. The driver was able to continue onto the ice of the Jamestown Reservoir where the vehicle came to a stop.

Schuldheisz fled east on foot and  was apprehended.

The vehicle remained on the ice  Monday afternoon as authorities looked at how to safely remove it from the reservoir.  The ice cover was estimated at up to 8 inches thick, and variable.

The Jamestown Police Department was assisted by the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, Jamestown Area Ambulance, and the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

On stand-by was the Stutsman County Dive team.

Jamestown  (CVHD)  Central Valley Health District reports they will hold COVID 19 testing   from 10 am to 12 noon at the Jamestown Civic Center,  using the Rapid Testing, BinaxNow   again Dec 29-30.

By screening with rapid antigen tests, event attendees will be able to receive their test results within 15 minutes via text notification. The test also is less invasive than a PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) test in that it uses a nasal swab to collect a sample from the lower part of the nostril.

If a person tests positive, they should isolate at home immediately and a case investigator will be in touch with them within 24 hours. If the screening yields a negative result, individuals should continue to monitor for symptoms.

Interested individuals should fill out an online survey at testreg.nd.gov for faster registration.

Washington releases Haskins

UNDATED (AP) — The Washington Football Team is parting with Dwayne Haskins, capping a rough week for the second-year quarterback.

Haskins was stripped of his captaincy last week after photos surfaced of him at a party where several individuals weren’t wearing masks.

The capper came in Sunday’s loss to Carolina. He was 14 of 28 with two interceptions and fumble before being pulled in the fourth quarter. He later infuriated the team by blowing off the postgame news conference at the stadium before speaking to the media via video at his home.

The 2019 first-round pick was 1-5 as a starter this season.

Head coach Ron Rivera says either Alex Smith or Taylor Heinicke will start Sunday night’s important regular-season finale against the Eagles. Washington needs to win the game to capture the NFC East.

Also around the NFL:

— Quarterback Jared Goff will miss the Rams’ season finale against the visiting Cardinals after undergoing surgery on his right thumb. Rams coach Sean McVay says Goff could return a week later if the Rams make the playoffs. John Wolford will take his first NFL snaps versus Arizona as both teams try to lock down playoff berths.

— A person with direct knowledge of the punishment tells The Associated Press that the Ravens have been fined $250,000 by the NFL for COVID-19 protocols violations. The punishment comes after their Thanksgiving night game against Pittsburgh had to be postponed three times due to positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing. The team was not docked draft picks for the violations.

The Browns were without their top four wide receivers, a starting left tackle and two linebackers for Sunday’s 23-16 loss to the Jets.

— Frank Gore won’t play in the Jets’ season finale against the Patriots on Sunday because of a bruised lung. Gore became the third player in NFL history to run for 16,000 yards but was hurt in the fourth quarter of the Jets’ victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The 37-year-old running back may have played his final game.

In world and national news…

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — President-elect Joe Biden is warning of massive damage done to the national security apparatus by the Trump administration and “roadblocks” in communication between agency officials and his transition team that could undermine Americans’ security. Biden says his team has faced “obstruction” from the “political leadership” at the Defense Department and the Office of Management and Budget as they’ve sought to gather necessary information to continue the transition of power. Biden’s remarks in Wilmington, Delaware, on Monday came after he was briefed by members of his national security and defense teams and advisers.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Whether most Americans will receive $2,000 COVID-19 relief checks is now in the hands of the Senate. President Donald Trump has been pushing to more than triple the $600 payments approved by Congress, reluctantly signing into law the massive relief bill that authorized the smaller checks. On Monday the House voted overwhelmingly to meet the president’s demand, but Republican senators have resisted increasing spending. The Senate is scheduled to meet Tuesday, and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has declined to publicly address how he plans to handle the issue.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A motive for the Christmas Day bombing in downtown Nashville remains elusive. But the 63-year-old man who killed himself and wounded three other people in the blast left behind clues that he never intended to survive. Anthony Quinn Warner gave away his car, telling the recipient he had cancer. He signed a document that transferred his Tennessee home to a California woman for nothing in return. And the computer consultant told an employer that he was retiring. But he didn’t leave behind a clear digital footprint or any other obvious clues to explain why he set off Friday’s explosion or played a message warning people to flee before the blast.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The stage is set for the first veto override of Donald Trump’s presidency. The House voted 322-87 on Monday to override Trump’s veto of the defense policy bill, a margin well above the two-thirds required. The Senate is expected to consider overriding the veto sometime this week. Trump says the bill fails to limit social media companies he claims were biased against him during his failed reelection campaign. And he opposes language that allows for the renaming of military bases that honor Confederate leaders. The defense bill authorizes more than $740 billion in military programs and construction, and it affirms 3% pay raises for U.S. troops.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip have fired a salvo of rockets into the Mediterranean Sea as part of a self-styled military drill to prepare for a possible war with Israel. The Islamic militant group Hamas has ruled Gaza since seizing power from rival Palestinian forces in 2007. It has fought three wars and numerous smaller skirmishes with Israel since then. A fragile, informal truce has mostly held in recent years, with only occasional exchanges of fire. Authorities in Gaza restricted movement along the main coastal road and barred fishing for the duration of the exercises, which were to continue for a period of 24 hours.

JERUSALEM (AP) — An official record shows that the United States sold the ambassador’s residence in Israel for more than $67 million in July. The State Department confirmed the sale in September but refused to identify the buyer or disclose the sale price of the sprawling beachfront compound in the upscale Tel Aviv suburb of Herzliya. The Israeli business newspaper Globes has identified the buyer as the U.S. casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, a strong supporter of both President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The sale of the residence helps to cement Trump’s controversial decision to relocate the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to contested Jerusalem in 2018.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The United States has started vaccinating its troops based in South Korea, as its Asian ally reported its highest daily COVID-19 fatalities amid surging cases in the country. The United States Forces Korea says it started inoculating military and civilian health-care workers, first responders and the USFK command team with the Moderna vaccine on Tuesday. Gen. Robert B. Abrams, chief of the 28,500 American troops in South Korea, was among those getting the vaccine. The South Korean government has faced domestic criticism that it has been too slow in working out vaccine procurement plans. The government plans to begin inoculating the South Korean public in February.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran’s state TV says the first study of the safety and effectiveness of a coronavirus vaccine in Iran has begun. Details about the vaccine’s production remained slim. Dozens are due to receive the locally developed shot in the hardest-hit country in the Middle East. The vaccine, is produced by Shifa Pharmed, part of a state-owned pharmaceutical conglomerate. It’s the first in the country to reach human trials. The study, a Phase 1 clinical trial, will enroll a total of 56 volunteers to receive two shots of Iran’s vaccine within two weeks. Iran has struggled to stem the worst virus outbreak in the region, which has infected over 1.2 million people there and killed nearly 55,000.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California is expected Tuesday to extend strict stay-at-home orders in areas where intensive care units are running out of beds. Gov. Intensive care units in Southern California and the San Joaquin Valley have no capacity remaining. Newsom said it was self-evident his stay-home order would be extended Tuesday in most of the state.
