Valley City (CCHD) City-County Health District in Valley city will be administering the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals who are 65 and older with or without chronic health conditions starting the week of February 15, 2021.
City-County Health District Administrator Theresa Will says a vaccination clinic on Weds Feb 17 at the Hi Liner Activity Center in Valley City from 7a.m. to noon. The Senior Center will provide free bus rides for those signed up to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
She encourages those without a computer to call the city county health district office to get registered or go online to CityCountyHealth.org. She said get registered before going to the vaccine clinic.
She said for those receiving a vaccine on February 17, a second vaccine dose will be administered on March 17 from 7-a.m., to noon, inside the Hi Liner Activity Center.
Several healthcare providers and pharmacies also have COVID-19 vaccines. Call your pharmacy or healthcare provider for more details or to get registered for a vaccine.
Enrolled COVID-19 vaccine providers in Barnes County have administered 2,290 doses to date and are ready to move on to vaccinating the next priority group: individuals ages 65 and up regardless of any chronic health conditions. The North Dakota Advisory Committee on COVID-19 Vaccination provided recommendations to the State of North Dakota’s Department of Health (NDDoH) and healthcare providers for prioritizing and allocating doses of vaccine as they arrive in the state.
CCHD Administrator, Theresa Will says, “City-County Health District (CCHD) has reached an important milestone, administering 1,417 doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine to Barnes County residents to date. We have utilized the North Dakota Immunization Information System and our electronic health record to reach as many residents ages 65 and over as possible. We have made personal contact and have helped individuals get registered for our vaccine clinics. We are working with Meals on Wheels and Buffalo Bridges Human Service Zone (social services) to identify home bound individuals and others over age 65, who wish to be vaccinated,”
The Health District and the county’s other community vaccinators are prepared to move down to the next priority group in Phase 1B of NDDoH’s vaccine groups: individuals age 65 and over, with or without any chronic health conditions.
Will adds, “Moving to the next priority group doesn’t mean we stop vaccinating individuals ages 75 and over or those with chronic health conditions, it means we’re ready to include newly eligible residents. If you are 65 or over, or have a parent, loved one or friend in that age group who hasn’t been vaccinated yet, please help them get registered. We don’t want to leave anyone behind, but we need your help to keep identifying folks who are willing to be vaccinated.”
To learn more or register for COVID-19 vaccination clinics hosted by CCHD, visit citycountyhealth.org/covid-19-vaccine. If you need clinic registration support, please call 701-845-8518 for assistance. Jamestown – (CSiNewsNow) Central Valley Health is anticipating to receive 400 doses and is planning a large vaccination clinic for those 65 and older on Thursday February 18.
Register here for the vaccination clinic, or visit the CVHD website at www.centralvalleyhealth.org and click “COVID-19”. Only those 65 and older are eligible to register and appointments are required. Appointments will be limited and once the clinic is full, the online registration will be shut down.
Other news: This week, Central Valley Health District (CVHD) with the assistance of Sanford Clinic, the North Dakota National Guard, and various community volunteers administered a total of 834 COVID-19 vaccinations, which included 754 first doses and 80 second doses.
Of those who received their vaccination, 746 were in the 65 and older population, the remainder were Phase1A health care workers, including University of Jamestown nursing students.
Unit Administrator, Robin Iszler says, “Our staff worked very hard this week to complete COVID vaccinations in the community. We want to thank all our partners for their assistance as it kept the clinics run very smoothly this week.”
All who have had completed the online Vaccination Interest Survey and are 65 and older have been contacted through phone or email. If a respondent did not hear from CVHD, they may have entered an incorrect phone number or email address on the survey.
Robin adds, “We will be monitoring the registration list and anyone who does not fit the age category or the current priority group will be refused service and will not be vaccinated.”
CVHD is asking for the public’s assistance to find anyone 65 and older, especially those 75 and older, that still want to be vaccinated and help them register for an appointment.
Robin adds, “We know that online registration can be difficult for some, but we do not want that to be a barrier for those interested to receive a vaccination. We encourage those who need assistance to ask a trusted friend or family member to assist them with the online registration.”
Future vaccination clinic information will be located on the CVHD website from now on at
https://centralvalleyhealth.org/hot-topics/, as well as on the CVHD Facebook page.

BISMARCK, NDANG — A North Dakota Army National Guard unit has received an alert for possible mobilization. If ordered to mobilize, the Grand Forks-based 1st Battalion, 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment (1-188th ADA) would leave for duty in the National Capitol Region (NCR) early- to mid-summer 2021.
The unit is headquartered in Grand Forks with subordinate units in Fargo and Bismarck and has about 225 Soldiers assigned. If ordered to mobilize, the unit would collaborate with other Department of Defense agencies as part of the integrated air defense system designed to protect NCR airspace. The length of their mission is expected to be about one year and would be consistent with typical U.S. Army ADA missions and tasks associated with aerial surveillance and protection of facilities and personnel from air attack.
“Once again, our N.D. Army National Guard air defenders may be asked to serve in the protection of the airspace in and around our nation’s capital,” said Maj. Gen. Al Dohrmann, North Dakota adjutant general. “These outstanding Soldiers will be ready if called upon and are supported by a network of strong caring families, communities and employers who understand how important their support is to our ability to fulfill mission obligations at home and abroad.”
If mobilized for this mission, this would be the 1-188th ADA’s 12th deployment since 2004, making it the most-deployed unit in the North Dakota Army National Guard. The unit supported the NCR mission twice before from July 2013 to April 2014 and March 2017 to February 2018. In addition to the NCR missions, this unit deployed to Kosovo as part of a NATO peacekeeping mission, and air defense Soldiers have deployed six times to Afghanistan and twice to Iraq in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
TORONTO (AP) — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says air travelers to Canada will quarantine in a hotel starting on Feb. 22 to await the result of a coronavirus test. It’s part of stricter restrictions on air travelers in response to new, likely more contagious variants. He earlier said hotel stays will be at the travelers’ own expense. Government officials say with limited exceptions, non essential air travelers, will be required to reserve, prior to departure to Canada, a 3-night stay in a government-authorized hotel. The measures will especially affect Canadian “snowbirds” who winter abroad and return home in the spring. Trudeau said Friday it could take up to three days for test results to be available. Travelers would then isolate at home or elsewhere if the test is negative.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A violent clash four years ago between Dakota Access Pipeline protesters and law enforcement is still being investigated, and one protester has been jailed for refusing to provide grand jury testimony. No one has been criminally charged in the November 2016 clash, which severely injured 21-year-old New York City resident Sophia Wilansky. She has sued law officers and Morton County, alleging police intentionally targeted her with a concussion grenade. Fellow protester Steve Martinez was taken into federal custody Feb. 3 for contempt of court. His attorneys say his detainment is tied to Wilansky’s lawsuit and government attempts to blame protesters.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota regulators say oil production in December was down slightly from a month earlier. The Department of Mineral Resources says the state produced an average of 1.19 million barrels of oil daily in December. That’s down from 1.22 million barrels daily from November. North Dakota also produced about 89.6 billion cubic feet of natural gas in December, up from 86.7 billion cubic feet in November. There were 15,798 wells producing in December, up from 15,620 in November. The December tallies are the latest figures available. There were 15 drill rigs operating Friday, one more than the December average.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Budget writers in the North Dakota House have slashed by almost half a landmark $1.1 billion proposed bonding package aimed largely at financing infrastructure projects across the state. The Republican-led House Appropriations Committee has endorsed the now-$680 million package that relies on earnings from the state’s voter-approved oil tax savings account to pay for the borrowed money. The proposal was being finalized Friday and will be sent the full House next week for consideration. About 75% of the money in the bonding proposal would fund flood-control projects in Fargo and Minot.

ABERDEEN, S.D. (UJ) — The University of Jamestown softball team split a pair of games Saturday to conclude the first weekend of the Fairfield Inn & Suites PC Dome Classic, hosted by Presentation College.
The Jimmies lost a close 2-1 game to NCAA Division 2 Minot State University in the opener, then rallied for a 10-6 win over Briar Cliff (Iowa) University in Saturday’s second game.
Jamestown, now 4-2 this season, will return to the PC Dome next Friday and Saturday for four more games.
Minot State 2, Jamestown 1
Kat Miska (JR/Pequot Lakes, Minn.) had a second strong outing in the circle for UJ, striking out 10 and allowing just one earned run over six innings. However, the Jimmie offense just managed one run in a loss to the Beavers.
Kassi Ward (JR/Olympia, Wash.) homered leading off the top of the second to account for Jamestown’s only run. Ward had two of the Jimmies’ five hits off of Minot State’s Trinity Valentine.
MSU tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, then plated the go-ahead and eventual winning run an inning later.
It was the first meeting between the two teams since May 7, 2011.
Jamestown 10, Briar Cliff 6
A seven-run fourth inning proved to be the difference for the Jimmies in a 10-6 win over GPAC rival Briar Cliff.
UJ sent 10 batters to the plate against four Charger pitchers. Katie Reisdorfer (JR/Fresno, Calif.) doubled twice in the inning, and Morgan Geiszler (JR/Horace, N.D.) also doubled, driving in a pair of runs. Santina ZIto also had a two-run single, Gracie Fisher (FR/Bemidji, Minn.) drew a bases-loaded walk, and a Briar Cliff error allowed another run to score.
Down 8-1, the Chargers got two runs back in the top of the fifth, then added three more in the top of the sixth to make it 8-6 Jimmies.
Sydney Prussia (JR/Detroit Lakes, Minn.)’s triple in the bottom of the sixth drove in Zito, who singled earlier, then a Morgan Neiles single allowed Prussia to cross the plate, giving UJ a 10-6 lead.
Ann-Marie Crandlemire (SO/Sicamous, BC) retired the side in order in the top of the seventh to close out the win. Lucy Sinkkonen (FR/Cloquet, Minn.) (1-0) got the win in her first collegiate start, pitching around four walks and six hits in five innings.
Prussia, Zito, Reisdorfer, and Morgan Geiszler had two hits each. Fisher, Mariah Wick (JR/Jamestown, N.D.), Julia Byrne (SO/Andover, Minn.), and Kaydence Alvey (FR/Caldwell, Idaho) also had hits for UJ, which matched a season high with 13 hits. Geiszler stole three bases and Wick swiped a pair.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak to the Chargers dating back to 2012.
Jamestown 7 Midland 3
(UJ) Four goals in a span of nine minutes and 21 seconds lifted the University of Jamestown hockey team to a 7-3 win over Midland (Neb.) University Saturday night at John L. Wilson Arena.
The win salvaged a split of the weekend series and improved the Jimmies’ record to 12-8-4.
Midland opened the scoring at 7:36 of the first on a goal by Ondrej Blaha. The Warrior lead lasted just over nine minutes until Vladislav Zamzhytski (SR/Minsk, Belarus) took a Hunter Maximnuk (FR/Heritage Point, Alberta) pass and drew the Jimmies level on a blistering stick-side slap shot from just inside the blue line.
Blaha tallied his second of the game 2:03 into the second period, then Aidan Potas (SO/Fargo, N.D.) tied the game at 2-2 with a power play goal at 13:21 from Jason Richter (SR/Kimberley, British Columbia) and Tyler Chavez-Leech (SR/Red Deer, Alberta). Richter later found Greg Susinski (FR/Calgary, Alberta) as UJ converted another power play opportunity, making it 3-2 at the 17:16 mark.
Just seven seconds into the third, Midland’s Ryan Donovan tied the game at three. Jordon Kromm (FR/Calgary, Alberta) began the Jamestown goal bonanza at 1:29 of the third, assisted by Carter Johnson (JR/Meeteetse, Wyo.) and Susinski.
Jake Huculak (FR/Jasper, Alberta) notched back-to-back goals, first a shorthanded marker at 6:01, then a 5-on-3 power play goal at 10:35 which was set up by Reid Wilson (FR/Castlegar, British Columbia) and Andrew Clark (FR/Spokane, Wash.). Fifteen seconds later, with the Jimmies enjoying a 5-on-4 advantage, Wilson lit the lamp courtesy of Richter and Chavez-Leech.
Both teams combined for 34 penalties totaling 142 minutes, resulting in 12 power play chances for UJ and 11 for Midland.
Tyson Brouwer (SR/Lethbridge, Alberta) stopped 38 of the 41 shots he faced while the Warriors’ Jaden Gardner had 35 saves on 42 shots.
The Jimmies will host Minot State on Friday at 7 p.m.

NASCAR-DAYTONA 500
Late wreck leads to McDowell’s first career Cup win at Daytona 500
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Michael McDowell couldn’t have picked a better time, place or venue in which to get his first victory in 358 career Cup Series starts.
McDowell pulled ahead and won the Daytona 500 after Penske Racing teammates Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski wrecked on the final lap.
McDowell was running third when Keselowski got a huge run on Logano. Keselowski tried to pass Logano on the low side, but Logano tried to block him and ended up crashing both of them. That gave McDowell the lead for the only time in the season-opening NASCAR race.
Chase Elliott was second, followed by Austin Dillon, Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin.
Hamlin was trying to become the first in NASCAR history to win three consecutive Daytona 500s.
A major pileup and a thunderstorm put the race on hold for nearly six hours and led some drivers to head across the street for some food while the event remained red-flagged with just 15 laps completed.
The big wreck occurred 14 laps into NASCAR’s marquee event, triggered when Aric Almirola turned into pole-winner Alex Bowman and started a 16-car pileup. Christopher Bell started the melee when he pushed Almirola too hard near the front of the field and forced the Stewart-Haas Racing driver to bobble as he tried to avoid a slide.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Boston Celtics were expected to challenge for a berth in the NBA Finals. However, they look nothing like a contender when they play the lowly Washington Wizards.
The Celtics are a .500 squad at 13-13 after falling to the Wizards for the second time in as many meetings this season, 104-91. NBA scoring leader Bradley Beal lit up Boston for 35 points after sitting out Friday’s loss to New York. He appeared rejuvenated as he hit 10 of 18 from the field, converted four 3-pointers and made all 11 of his free throws.

After a quick timeout to set up a final play, Penn State turned it over again, this time with Trey McGowens making the steal for Nebraska as time expired. Mets, A’s bolster pens
UNDATED (AP) — The New York Mets hope they’ve bolstered their bullpen by signing left-hander Mike Montgomery and righty Tommy Hunter to minor league contracts that include invitations to big league camp.
The 34-year-old Hunter went 0-1 with one save and a 4.01 ERA in 24 games for Philadelphia last season. He also has played for Texas, Baltimore, the Chicago Cubs, Cleveland and Tampa Bay.
The 31-year-old Montgomery pitched three games for Kansas City last year, giving up three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings. Used in a variety of roles, he is 23-34 with three saves and a 3.84 ERA in 183 games over six seasons with Seattle, the Cubs and Kansas City.
Also around the majors:
— The agent for Yusmeiro Petit (yoos-MEHR’-oh peh-TEE’) says the veteran reliever has agreed to a $2.55 million, one-year contract to stay with the Athletics, pending a physical. The 36-year-old Petit will return for a fourth season in Oakland, having gone 2-1 with a 1.66 ERA over 26 outings and 21 2/3 innings last year. In another Oakland bullpen move, a person with direct knowledge of the negotiations says Sergio Romo is close to accepting a one-year package.
TENNIS-AUSTRALIAN OPEN
Pegula reaches first major quarterfinal
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Play is underway on Day 8 of the Australian Open.
Jessica Pegula (peh-GOO’-luh) has reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal by earning her first victory over an opponent ranked in the Top 10. The 61st-ranked American beat No. 5 seed Elina Svitolina (svih-toh-LEE’-nah) of Ukraine, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in Rod Laver Arena.
The 25-year-old Pegula has won four matches at Melbourne Park over the past week after entering the tournament with a total of three Grand Slam match wins for her career.
Pegula’s next opponent is Jennifer Brady, who was a 6-1, 7-5 winner against Donna Vekic. Brady had nine aces and continues to play dominant tennis after going through two weeks of hard quarantine following her arrival to Melbourne. She was not allowed to leave her hotel room at all during that time because someone on her flight tested positive for COVID-19 upon arrival.
Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal remains on course for a men’s-record 21st Grand Slam singles title. The world No. 2 reached the Australian quarters for the 13th time by dropping just nine games in a straight-sets win over 16th seed Fabio Fognini.
Nadal’s next opponent is fifth-seeded Stefano Tsitsipas, who advanced when No. 9 Matteo Berrettini pulled out of their fourth-round match with an abdominal injury. Tsitsipas lost to Nadal in the Australian Open semifinals two years ago.
In other action on Day 8 of the tournament:

In world and national news…
DALLAS (AP) — The Texas council that manages the majority of the state’s electricity has initiated rotating power outages Monday morning as the state experiences a winter storm dropping snow, ice and temperatures. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas urged residents to reduce electricity. Over a million customers went without power for short periods as officials worked to conserve energy. Snow is also falling across Arkansas and Oklahoma, with the governors of those states and Texas activating the National Guard to assist state agencies. Dozens of crashes were reported Sunday and hundreds of flights were canceled across the southern Plains as the states dealt with the impacts of the winter storm.
WASHINGTON (AP) — After former President Donald Trump’s acquittal at his second Senate impeachment trial, bipartisan support appears to be growing for an independent Sept. 11-style commission into the deadly insurrection that took place at the U.S. Capitol. Investigations into the riot were already planned, with Senate hearings scheduled later this month in the Senate Rules Committee. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has asked retired Army Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré to lead an immediate review of the Capitol’s security process. Lawmakers from both parties signaled on Sunday’s news shows that even more inquiries are likely. The Senate verdict Saturday was 57-43, falling 10 votes short of what was needed to convict Trump.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The North Carolina Republican Party is expected to vote Monday on whether to censure Sen. Richard Burr over his vote to convict former President Donald Trump during Trump’s second impeachment trial. Party spokesman Tim Wigginton told multiple news outlets Sunday that the group’s central committee would meet for the vote Monday night. Burr is one of seven Republicans who voted to convict Trump of “incitement of insurrection” on Saturday. Trump was acquitted because the vote fell short of the two-thirds majority needed for conviction. Burr said in a statement after the trial that Trump “bears responsibility” for the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden has spent his first weekend as president at Camp David, the historic retreat for U.S. leaders. It’s been used by every president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt first went there in 1943 as a personal hideaway. It’s also been the site of major diplomatic negotiations and policy discussions throughout history. The camp’s relaxed atmosphere is said to lend itself to the relationship-building that’s so central to diplomacy. Over the years, presidents have made additions to suit their tastes, including adding a heated swimming pool, putting green and basketball court. During his visit this weekend, Biden played Mario Kart with one of his granddaughters.
(AP) German authorities say police have turned back 5,000 people at the country’s borders with the Czech Republic and Austria’s Tyrol region since tight controls were introduced on Sunday. Germany imposed checks to slow the spread of the British coronavirus variant from the Czech Republic and of the South African variant from Tyrol. It is restricting entry to German citizens and residents, truck drivers, transport and health service workers and a few others including cross-border commuters working in “systemically relevant sectors.” All have to show a negative coronavirus test. An Interior Ministry spokesman said by Monday morning federal police had checked about 10,000 people and turned back some 5,000. The checks have prompted strong criticism from Austria.
BRUSSELS (AP) — An Associated Press investigation, conducted in collaboration with the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab, found that powerful political figures and allied media in China, the U.S., Russia and Iran flooded the globe with disinformation about the origins of the COVID pandemic. As rhetoric from leading U.S. Republicans intensified, China went on the offensive, launching what may be its first truly global digital disinformation campaign. China used its growing presence on Twitter and Facebook to seed and spread disinformation that coursed through tens of thousands of accounts with hundreds of millions of followers in dozens of languages.
