Valley City  (CSi)  Stemming from rolling electrical blackouts, the Valley City Public Works Department is asking residents to limit water usage until further notice.

The rolling blackouts were reported to be occurring in North Dakota and other parts of the country.  The electrical outage, cuts power to the sewage lift stations.

The City of Valley City is informing residents that some areas are without power stemming from mandatory rolling electrical blackouts.

The city reports extreme cold throughout the state and country has made the state of North Dakota implement mandatory rolling blackouts. Each blackout is expected to last between 30 minutes.

City officials are not notified when the blackout will occur.

Valley City  (VCPS)  Valley City Public School Superintendent Josh Johnson has issued a statement on Tuesday, regarding rolling blackouts.

“We’ve learned that short power outages may continue throughout the day (Tuesday) here in Valley City. We are planning to continue the school day as scheduled knowing that our students and staff are resourceful, flexible, and up for any challenge (heck we’ve operated school during a pandemic).

Thank you for your patience and understanding that school will be different today, but we are committed to providing a warm and safe school environment for our students. If this plan does change for any reason, we will communicate with students, staff, and parents via our phone system, email, and social media.”

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Fire Department responded to a call just before 4-p.m., Monday to 116 4th Avenue, Southeast.

The caller reported his house was filling up with smoke.

City Fire Chief Jim Reuther says major smoke damage was reported to the two story home, that was theorized to have been caused by an electrical fire in the ceiling from a vent fan, with flames traveling along a wall.

An occupant of the home was examined for smoke inhalation, at the scene by Jamestown Area Ambulance Service first responders.

The Buffalo Valley Red Cross offered assistance, however the occupants indicated they have a place to stay.

23 firefighters and six city fire units were on the scene for about an hour.

Jamestown  (CVHD)  Central Valley Health District reports they will hold COVID 19 testing   from 11 am to 12 noon at the Jamestown Civic Center,  using the Rapid Testing, BinaxNow, balance of February, at 11 am t0 12 noon.

Tues Feb 16, Thurs. Feb. 18, Mon. Feb 22, Wed. Feb. 24 Fri. Feb 26, 2021.

By screening with rapid antigen tests, event attendees will be able to receive their test results within 15 minutes via text notification. The test also is less invasive than a PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) test in that it uses a nasal swab to collect a sample from the lower part of the nostril.

If a person tests positive, they should isolate at home immediately and a case investigator will be in touch with them within 24 hours. If the screening yields a negative result, individuals should continue to monitor for symptoms.

Interested individuals should fill out an online survey at testreg.nd.gov for faster registration.

For more information about rapid antigen tests and North Dakota’s screening strategies, visit https://www.health.nd.gov/rapid-antigen-screening

Valley City  (CCHD)  City-County Health District  in Valley city will be administering the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals who are 65 and older with or without chronic health conditions starting the week of February 15, 2021.

City-County Health District Administrator Theresa Will says a vaccination clinic on Weds Feb 17 at the Hi Liner Activity Center in Valley City from 7a.m. to noon. The Senior Center will provide free bus rides for those signed up to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

She encourages those without a computer to call the city county health district office to get registered or go online to CityCountyHealth.org. She said get registered before going to the vaccine clinic.

She said for those receiving a vaccine on February 17, a second vaccine dose will be administered on March 17 from 7-a.m., to noon, inside the Hi Liner Activity Center.

Several healthcare providers and pharmacies also have COVID-19 vaccines. Call your pharmacy or healthcare provider for more details or to get registered for a vaccine.

Enrolled COVID-19 vaccine providers in Barnes County have administered 2,290 doses to date and are ready to move on to vaccinating the next priority group: individuals ages 65 and up regardless of any chronic health conditions. The North Dakota Advisory Committee on COVID-19 Vaccination provided recommendations to the State of North Dakota’s Department of Health (NDDoH) and healthcare providers for prioritizing and allocating doses of vaccine as they arrive in the state.

CCHD Administrator, Theresa Will says, “City-County Health District (CCHD) has reached an important milestone, administering 1,417 doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine to Barnes County residents to date. We have utilized the North Dakota Immunization Information System and our electronic health record to reach as many residents ages 65 and over as possible. We have made personal contact and have helped individuals get registered for our vaccine clinics. We are working with Meals on Wheels and Buffalo Bridges Human Service Zone (social services) to identify home bound individuals and others over age 65, who wish to be vaccinated,”

The Health District and the county’s other community vaccinators are prepared to move down to the next priority group in Phase 1B of NDDoH’s vaccine groups: individuals age 65 and over, with or without any chronic health conditions.

Will adds, “Moving to the next priority group doesn’t mean we stop vaccinating individuals ages 75 and over or those with chronic health conditions, it means we’re ready to include newly eligible residents. If you are 65 or over, or have a parent, loved one or friend in that age group who hasn’t been vaccinated yet, please help them get registered. We don’t want to leave anyone behind, but we need your help to keep identifying folks who are willing to be vaccinated.”

Jamestown– (CSiNewsNow)  Central Valley Health is anticipating to receive 400 doses and is planning a large vaccination clinic for those 65 and older on Thursday February 18.

Register here for the vaccination clinic, or visit the CVHD website at www.centralvalleyhealth.org and click  “COVID-19”. Only those 65 and older are eligible to register and appointments are required. Appointments will be limited and once the clinic is full, the online registration will be shut down.

Other news:   Last week, Central Valley Health District (CVHD) with the assistance of Sanford Clinic, the North Dakota National Guard, and various community volunteers administered a total of 834 COVID-19 vaccinations, which included 754 first doses and 80 second doses.

Of those who received their vaccination, 746 were in the 65 and older population, the remainder were Phase1A health care workers, including University of Jamestown nursing students.

Unit Administrator, Robin Iszler says, “Our staff worked very hard this week to complete COVID vaccinations in the community. We want to thank all our partners for their assistance as it kept the clinics run very smoothly this week.”

All who have had completed the online Vaccination Interest Survey and are 65 and older have been contacted through phone or email. If a respondent did not hear from CVHD, they may have entered an incorrect phone number or email address on the survey.

Robin adds, “We will be monitoring the registration list and anyone who does not fit the age category or the current priority group will be refused service and will not be vaccinated.”

CVHD is asking for the public’s assistance to find anyone 65 and older, especially those 75 and older, that still want to be vaccinated and help them register for an appointment.

Robin adds, “We know that online registration can be difficult for some, but we do not want that to be a barrier for those interested to receive a vaccination. We encourage those who need assistance to ask a trusted friend or family member to assist them with the online registration.”

Future vaccination clinic information will be located on the CVHD website from now on at https://centralvalleyhealth.org/hot-topics/, as well as on the CVHD Facebook page.

Jamestown  (CSi)  The Jamestown Public School Board, Monday heard a presentation by Superintendent Dr. Robert Lech saying  the Instructional Plan Review Team has recommended to continue under the current instructional plan.

Dr. Lech says the school district continues to gather data, using collected information to determine  decisions instead of relying on  what’s happening externally.

He pointed out that mitigation strategies remain effective and the support of their staff continues to be a main reason they have kept COVID-19 numbers down in the school district.

The school district  also continues with serial testing for staff, and  they are keeping contact with area providers to gain access to vaccines for their staff.

Dr. Lech also says they are staying informed on the progress of the UJ/JPS shared use facility project from JLG Engineering, noting a slowing and stoppage of some work  due to weather conditions.

Dr. Lech says he’s also begun obtaining data and information for a Capital Projects plan and a focus on summer projects.

Jamestown  (JRMC) – With the help of hundreds of community members, Jamestown Regional Medical Center raised more than $110,000 for patient care now and for future generations.

Giving Hearts Day is more than a campaign. It is a platform funded by Dakota Medical Foundation, High Impact Institute and The Alex Stern Foundation that helps grow and strengthen nonprofits to serve their communities better.

The 24-hour online giving event has more than 500 participating charities that also receive matching dollars. For every $10 donated, JRMC received a match, up to $54,500.

JRMC Foundation Director Lisa Jackson, says,  “It’s no secret that 2020 was a challenging year for all of us. Jackson. “Jamestown and the surrounding communities rely on JRMC. Your gift provides the best outcomes for care, whether it’s a pandemic or not. The community gave wholeheartedly. We are grateful.”

More than 300 donors supported multiple JRMC needs.

Zonta Club of Jamestown

For example, now JRMC can purchase an additional ultrasound machine. Everyday use will include guidance with nerve blocks, IVs and the placement of arterial, central and PICC lines. The equipment provides increased safety and pain control and will be used throughout JRMC departments, including orthopedics, emergency, family birthplace and patient care unit.

Jackson adds, “This support ensures our financial health while we care for the community’s physical health.

Bismarck  (CSi) – Gov. Doug Burgum issued the following statement Monday after Southwest Power Pool, whose 14-state electrical transmission area includes parts of North Dakota, declared an Energy Emergency Alert Level 3 and directed its member utilities to implement controlled interruptions of service to prevent further power outages.

“Consumers in the Southwest Power Pool’s regional grid operating area are being urged to reduce their consumption of electricity at both home and work as SPP and its member companies work to restore the grid to full capacity, and we thank North Dakotans for doing their part to conserve power,” Burgum said. “This situation, brought about by extreme cold stretching south all the way to Texas, underscores the need for an all-of-the-above energy approach with reliable coal power as a critical piece of the baseload mix.”

North Dakota electricity consumers are served by two regional transmission organizations, SPP and Midwest Independent System Operators, or MISO.

WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) — A 66-year-old Watford City man has died after he was hit by a truck when he stopped on the highway to retrieve items that had blown out of his own pickup truck. The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the incident happened before 7 p.m. Monday on Highway 85 near Watford City. Authorities say the man was driving southbound when items blew out of the bed of his truck. As he was getting his belongings that were scattered on the highway, he was hit by another pickup truck and killed. His name has not been released.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Some pro-gun North Dakota legislators are taking another shot at allowing people to carry hidden firearms at sporting and athletic events. Dickinson Republican Luke Simons’ bill also would cut nearly two dozen items from the state’s list of dangerous weapon. Almost all of the testimony Monday was centered around narrowing the list of dangerous weapons. No one on the committee questioned amending state law to allow people to legally carry firearms at a sporting or athletic events Simons said that expanding the state’s gun laws to include those activities “is the main intent” of the bill.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota lawmakers have killed a bill meant to prevent the release of police mugshots. The proposal by Republican Rep. Shannon Roers Jones, of Fargo, would have made booking photos confidential unless the arrestee became a fugitive from justice, failed to appear in court or was convicted of an offense related to their arrest. There was also an exception for “a compelling public safety or law enforcement interest warranting release.” The Bismarck Tribune reports that the House tally on Monday was three votes short of moving the legislation on to the Senate. Supporters of the measure say mugshots live forever online and cause distress for people who are arrested but never charged with a crime. Opponents say the bill would infringe upon the public’s right to know.

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — Authorities say two men have been arrested for a weekend shooting incident at a strip club just outside the Devils Lake city limits. Ramsey County Sheriff Steve Nelson says one man was shot in the leg early Saturday when multiple rounds were fired into Wally’s Roadhouse and Gentleman’s Club. The injured man’s condition is not known. Nelson says the shooting happened after the two suspects left the club. One of them retrieved a gun from a vehicle and gave it to the second suspect, who fired at the building. KFGO radio reports that one man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and the other man is facing an accomplice to attempted murder charge.

NBA..

UNDATED (AP) — Julius Randle scored a season-high 44 points, making a career-best seven 3-pointers and leading the New York Knicks to their third straight victory, 123-112 over the slumping Atlanta Hawks. Randle added nine rebounds and five assists in perhaps the best performance of a season that should merit All-Star consideration. The seventh-year forward scored 17 points on 7-for-8 shooting in the first quarter to send the Knicks to a fast start and ended up one point shy of his career high. RJ Barrett added 21 points and rookie Immanuel Quickley had 16 for the Knicks, who improved to 14-15 and can reach .500 with a victory over Orlando on Wednesday.

In other action:

— Zach LaVine scored 12 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter to help Chicago force overtime, and the Bulls then pulled away from the Indiana Pacers for a 120-112 victory. Chicago had lost 10 straight against Indiana and eight straight on the road in the series. Domantas Sabonis scored 25 points and Malcolm Brogdon had 23 for the Pacers, who had won two in a row.

— Bradley Beal scored 37 points in an entertaining duel with ex-teammate John Wall, and the Wizards beat the undermanned Houston Rockets 131-119 in Wall’s return to Washington. Wall was traded in December for Russell Westbrook and a future first-round pick. He had season highs of 29 points and 11 assists for the Rockets.

— The Utah Jazz cruised to a homecourt 134-123 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

VIRUS OUTBREAK-NBA

Spurs-Pistons game postponed by coronavirus-related issues

UNDATED (AP) — Tuesday’s game between the San Antonio Spurs and Detroit Pistons has been postponed, marking the second time this month that the NBA has called off a game because of coronavirus-related issues.

The NBA announced Monday that the Spurs have someone who tested positive. That, combined with contact tracing, meant they would not have the league minimum of eight players available to begin a game.

The Spurs were without guard Quinndary Weatherspoon for Sunday’s game against Charlotte because of the league’s COVID-19 protocols. Weatherspoon had played 10 minutes on Friday in Atlanta, then was flagged by the protocols over the weekend.

NBA-CAVALIERS-DRUMMOND

AP source: Cavs to sit Andre Drummond while pursuing trade

CLEVELAND (AP) — A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press that the Cleveland Cavaliers will make center Andre Drummond inactive for upcoming games as they pursue a trade for him. Drummond did not dress for Sunday night’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers and will continue to stay on the sideline. The person who spoke to the AP says there is “nothing imminent” on the trade front. The Cavs said Sunday that Drummond was out for “rest.” The Cavs have lost seven straight games and 11 of 13. Drummond was a two-time All-Star with Detroit before he traded to Cleveland last year.

Elsewhere in the NBA:

— Stephen Curry scored 36 points in three quarters and the Golden State Warriors routed the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-98. Draymond Green tied his career high with 16 assists as the Warriors got double-figure scoring from six players and sent the Cavaliers to their eighth straight loss. Collin Sexton led the Cavaliers with 23 points. Cleveland shot 38.9% from the floor and was winless on its five-game road trip.

— Kyrie Irving scored a season-high 40 points, James Harden had his fifth triple-double with Brooklyn and the Nets beat the Sacramento Kings 136-125 as injured Kevin Durant watched from the bench. Irving went 15 of 22 and made nine of the Nets’ franchise-record 27 3-pointers, including back-to-back shots from beyond the arc to start the game and three more as part of a 23-4 run in the third quarter. It was the seventh time in 20 games with Brooklyn that Irving scored 30 or more. Harden had 29 points, 14 assists and 13 rebounds, his ninth consecutive game with a double-double. The club record is 10.

— Marcus Morris had season highs of 32 points and six 3-pointers, and the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Miami Heat 125-118 for their fourth straight victory. The Clippers won without Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, who were out for the second straight night because of injuries. Jimmy Butler had 30 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the Heat, who fell to 4-9 on the road. Ivica Zubac added 22 points for the Clippers, and Lou Williams had 18 points and 10 assists.

— The Detroit Pistons say Blake Griffin will be out of the lineup while he and the organization work out a resolution on his future, a sign that the star forward’s days with the team could be numbered. Griffin, who turns 32 next month, came to Detroit in a trade during the 2017-18 season. The Pistons have made just one postseason appearance with him and have spent much of the last year overhauling their roster in earnest. Detroit is 8-19 this season, and Griffin has already missed seven games.

— Forward Anthony Davis’ injured Achilles tendon is not ruptured, and he will be reevaluated when the Los Angeles Lakers return from their road trip. Davis had an MRI exam on Monday, and he is out indefinitely. — Parties may be part of NBA All-Star weekend next month. They just won’t include NBA All-Stars. Players taking part in All-Star weekend in Atlanta will largely have to remain in their hotels when not at the arena, the league told teams on Monday, and all players and coaches — whether part of All-Star events or not — will have to continue getting tested daily for COVID-19. The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association agreed on those rules.

Marlins to allow small crowds

MIAMI (AP) — Small crowds at Marlins Park will be back this season. The attendance-challenged Marlins plan to allow fans at home games, although crowds will initially be limited to about 25% of capacity. That would mean a maximum of about 9,300 spectators in the 37,446-seat ballpark.

The Marlins, like the rest of MLB, didn’t allow fans during the 2020 regular season because of the coronavirus pandemic. Limited crowds were permitted for the postseason. In Derek Jeter’s first two years as CEO, the Marlins averaged about 10,000 fans in 2018 and 2019, worst in the majors.

Indians finalize Billy Hamilton’s minor league contract

Hamilton spent last season with the Cubs and Mets. He gives the Indians another option as they try to fix an outfield that hasn’t produced much in recent seasons. The 30-year-old Hamilton has 305 career steals over eight seasons with Cincinnati, Kansas City, Atlanta, Chicago and New York.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — The attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 has reignited the debate over how law enforcement should handle domestic extremist groups.
