Valley City (VCPS)  Valley city Public Schools has updated the District’s COVID-19 Plan.

In his news release, Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Josh Johnson, said:

“Our District Emergency Response Team (DERT) met to discuss and update our District COVID-19 Plan. Specifically, we addressed a CDC recommendation regarding individuals traveling out of country. Below, please see the out of country requirements that will be implemented in our school district immediately and until further notice.

The CDC is recommending (see link below) that all individuals traveling out of country should quarantine upon return to the United States. An individual should quarantine up to 7 days with a negative test and/or quarantine for 10 days without a test. In consultation with our local health team, we will implement this recommendation at VCPS with one modification:
– An individual may test 3-5 days following return and with a negative PCR test may be back in school prior to 7 days.

We advise any individuals planning to travel out of country this spring PLEASE contact the school district prior to your travels, and we will be able to provide you with more specific information from our local health officials. Please know that we currently do NOT have any travel restrictions in place for domestic travel; however, this is subject to change and will be communicated as necessary with you.

Valley City Public Schools will be updating our District COVID-19 Plan next week (March 1-5) and will be sharing that with you via email and link to our website. In the meantime, if you have any specific questions regarding our plan, do not hesitate to contact your school principal, activities director, and/or our district office. Thank YOU for your support and collaboration this school year. We have and will continue to model a successful education learning plan for other school districts in North Dakota and across the country. Any of our successes would NOT have been possible without the collective efforts from our students, educators, parents, school board, and community.”

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota House wants residents to decide if sports betting and internet poker should be allowed in the state. Representatives on Tuesday endorsed a pair of bipartisan resolutions and companion bills that set the rules for the gambling operations. The proposals now move to the Senate. If approved by both chambers, the measures could appear on the November 2022 ballot. Backers say internet poker and sports betting would generate revenue for charitable causes and the state, including its compulsive gambling treatment program. Opponents worry that expanded gambling in the state could cause more gambling addiction problems.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A Bismarck man accused of striking another man with his vehicle in an alleged road rage incident has been charged with attempted murder. Police say 41-year-old Raymond Moniz struck a 33-year-old man who had gotten out of his vehicle Saturday during a road rage encounter. The victim was thrown on the hood of Moniz’s vehicle, hit the windshield and rolled off. Authorities say Moniz drove away. Moniz declined to go to the hospital. Moniz also is charged with a misdemeanor for not reporting the incident. He was in custody on $150,000 cash bail. Court records do not list an attorney for him.

In world and national news…

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities and Tiger Woods’ manager say the golf star has suffered leg injuries in a vehicle rollover in the Los Angeles area and is undergoing surgery. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says Woods had to be extricated from the vehicle Tuesday with the so-called jaws of life tools. No other cars were involved in the wreck that injured the golfer. Woods was taken to the hospital and his condition isn’t clear. The vehicle sustained major damage.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Senate hearing examining what went wrong with the law enforcement response to the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection has ended. House Rules Committee Chairwoman Amy Klobuchar said afterward that “it’s clear action needs to be taken” after security officials who were in charge that day described confusion during the attack and intelligence failures that failed to predict the violence. Three of the four security officials, including the Capitol police chief, resigned immediately after the attack. Klobuchar said the next police chief should have “greater ability to make decisions” both leading up to and during a crisis.

WASHINGTON (AP) — COVID-19 vaccine makers tell Congress to expect a big jump in the delivery of doses over the coming month. The companies insisted Tuesday at a hearing that they will be able to provide enough vaccine for most Americans by summer. By the end of March, Pfizer and Moderna expect to have provided the U.S. government with a total of 220 million vaccine doses, up from the roughly 75 million shipped so far. That’s not counting a third vaccine, from Johnson & Johnson. It is expected to get a green light from regulators soon. State health officials say demand for inoculations still vastly outstrips the limited weekly shipments provided by the federal government.

HOUSTON (AP) — States are scrambling to catch up on coronavirus vaccinations after bad weather last week led to clinic closures and shipment backlogs. But they’re also gearing up to administer even more shots as the supply increases. A limited supply of the two approved COVID-19 vaccines hampered the pace of vaccinations even before extreme weather delayed the delivery of about 6 million doses. But White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Tuesday that states can expect about 14.5 million doses of the coronavirus vaccine this week, an almost 70% increase in distribution over the past month. The stepped-up efforts come as the U.S. COVID-19 death toll surpassed 500,000.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge has ordered the wife of Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman to remain temporarily jailed after she was arrested and accused of helping her husband run his multibillion-dollar cartel and plotting his audacious escape from a Mexican prison in 2015. She was arrested in the United States on Monday. The Justice Department says 31-year-old Emma Coronel Aispuro, a dual citizen of the U.S. and Mexico, was arrested at Dulles International Airport. Coronel is the mother of the couple’s school-age twin daughters. Her husband was sentenced to life behind bars in 2019.

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem is calling for the resignation of the state’s attorney general who is facing misdemeanor charges for striking and killing a man with his car. Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg has indicated he will not step down while he waits for the case against him to proceed. Prosecutors have charged Ravnsborg with three misdemeanors but no felonies in the September death of 55-year-old Joseph Boever. Noem said Tuesday that Ravnsborg should resign now that he has been charged. She has promised to release more details from the crash investigation.
