Jamestown  (CVHD)  Central Valley Health District reports they will hold COVID 19 testing from 11 am to 12 noon

  • Fri. Feb 26

at the Jamestown Civic Center,  using the Rapid Testing, BinaxNow.

By screening with rapid antigen tests, event attendees will be able to receive their test results within 15 minutes via text notification. The test also is less invasive than a PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) test in that it uses a nasal swab to collect a sample from the lower part of the nostril.

If a person tests positive, they should isolate at home immediately and a case investigator will be in touch with them within 24 hours. If the screening yields a negative result, individuals should continue to monitor for symptoms.

Interested individuals should fill out an online survey at testreg.nd.gov for faster registration.

“During their regular monthly meeting February 18, 2021, the library governing board made the following changes regarding library operations effective Monday March 1st:

  1. The library will open M-F at 10am, which was the original time pre-Covid. Saturdays will continue with the 1pm opening. Closing times will continue MWFS at 5pm and TR at 7pm. The two hours from 10am to noon will be appointment only, to accommodate patrons who may have health issues.
  2. Starting at noon M-F and 1pm Saturday, appointments will no longer be required. The library will continue with a five-patron limit at any one time. Because of this, patrons will still have the option to reserve an appointment time from noon to close. Patrons with an appointment will count toward the capacity limit, whether they have arrived yet or not.
Walk-ins without an appointment will be admitted to the building unless we have reached the five-patron limit, at which time they will have to wait outside until a current patron departs. Library doors will remain locked to help control access. Please ring the door bell. Patron entrance and exit will remain only at the SE entrance.
  3. To better meet the needs of our younger patrons, school age children, 5 and up, be allowed in-person access to library materials starting at 3pm and going until close every day, including Saturday.

Face masks will continue to be required while in the library. Additionally, social distancing, and good hand hygiene practices will continue to be required to enter and remain the building. Patron visits will continue to be limited to a ½ hour.

Curbside service for all patrons will continue following the current protocols.

All returning library materials will continue with our current 48-hour quarantine protocol. As you have the previous several months, please continue to utilize the red drive-up drop box between the library and city county health. Desk returns will not be accepted unless otherwise instructed by a member of staff.

Any patron who chooses not to abide by the above rules will not be permitted entrance or will be asked to leave if they disregard the rules after entering. Any complaints or comments can be addressed to the director or a board member. Harassment of library staff, including the director, will not be tolerated.”

Bismarck  (DHS)   The North Dakota State Hospital, which is part of the North Dakota Department of Human Services, received a two-year accreditation from The Joint Commission for its laboratory services area following an on-site survey review on Feb. 23. The accreditation represents the hospital’s commitment to providing safe and high-quality care to North Dakotans with mental health and substance use disorders.

State Hospital, Superintendent, Dr. Rosalie Etherington says, “Our laboratory professionals are indispensable partners in providing patient-centered care and in improving health outcomes. Our successful survey is no surprise and is a testimony to the dedicated and excellent work of our lab director, Jodi Ronnigen and her valued staff.”

The state hospital’s laboratory services underwent a thorough inspection and evaluation for compliance with performance standards in a variety of areas including emergency management, infection prevention and control; documentation and process control; and staff qualifications and competency. The only identified need for improvement was the replacement of hard structures like counters and flooring for better infection prevention.

The accreditation was awarded at the conclusion of the one-day visit. The North Dakota State Hospital and its behavioral health care programs go through a separate accreditation process every three years. The hospital first received accreditation from The Joint Commission in 1956.

The North Dakota State Hospital provides specialized inpatient and residential care to individuals with severe, complex, and persistent mental illnesses and substance use disorders and remains the safety net for people whose behavioral challenges exceed community resources. It serves as the only psychiatric hospital for the Jamestown and Devils Lake regions.

The state hospital also provides substance use disorder treatment services through its Tompkins program for adults referred from the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and locked residential evaluation and treatment services for sexually dangerous individuals. It works with the department’s eight regional human service centers and other providers to help patients transition to community-based outpatient treatment and recovery support services.

The Joint Commission is the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the country. It evaluates and accredits more than 18,000 health care organizations and programs in the country.

Fargo  (KFGO) – A Bismarck man has been charged with felony counts of attempted simple assault on a peace officer and preventing arrest following a confrontation with West Fargo Police.

Wednesday night, officers responded to a report from someone who spotted a person wanted on outstanding warrants and possibly armed.

Officers encountered 29-year old Anthony Olson on foot. He initially refused police orders to show his hands but then showed a brass knuckle knife in one of his hands. Still not complying with police orders, officers used a Taser and a beanbag-style shotgun. Not obeying officers and after being hit in the leg with a beanbag round he ran, still armed with the knife. Olson eventually stopped on 19th Avenue West and laid on the ground. He then used his knife in a slashing movement toward one of the officers, telling them to shoot him.

A Taser was used again and Olson was subdued, treated for self-inflicted wounds, and booked in the Cass County Jail.

UJ Men’s Volleyball

Jamestown def  Ottawa University 25-11,25-22,25-20

UJ Recap

Samuel Jackman (SO/St. Jean Baptiste, Manitoba) and Derek Owens (FR/Andover, Minn.) provided much of the heavy lifting for the sixth-ranked University of Jamestown men’s volleyball team Thursday night as the Jimmies defeated Ottawa (Kan.) 3-0 at Harold Newman Arena. Set scores were 25-11, 25-22, and 25-20.

Jackman had 12 kills and hit .556 for the match while Owens finished with 10 kills and no errors, hitting .769 on 13 attempts.

UJ and Ottawa were meeting for the third time in the last eight matches, with one more matchup still to be played tomorrow night. Despite seeing the Braves so often in such a short amount of time, the Jimmies were ready for any strategic changes thrown their way.

“The first time we played them, they ran with a 6-2, but they didn’t sub in any of their smaller (defensive specialists),” Jackman said. They just kinda left the game and whatever happened, happened. The next time we played them, they completely switched it up, and we beat them in three. Then this game, they switched again. The (UJ) coaches put up a perfect scouting report for tonight, and we just adapted.”

Owens put three balls to the floor early on, staking the Jimmies to a 4-1 lead. Three kills by Jackman combined with a pair of Ottawa service and attack errors keyed a 7-2 run that put UJ in front 14-7. The momentum changer was string of eight straight Jimmie points that featured kills by Tanner Woods (FR/Huntington Beach, Calif.), Derek Correa (FR/Vega Baja, Puerto Rico), and two each by Jackman and Caylor Cox (FR/Helena, Mont.).

In set two, the Jimmies led 8-5 before Ottawa found some offensive consistency, and eventually went ahead 17-16. After the teams traded points, UJ reeled off five straight to switch the momentum. Back-to-back kills by Ashan Jordan brought the Braves within 24-22, but Jackman finished off the set with another kill.

Jamestown hit its lowest percentage of the match in set three, connecting on just 30 percent of its 30 attempts, but the Jimmies benefitted from some key Ottawa service and attack errors to put the match away. Two kills by Owens, another by Woods, and a service ace from Braden Neumann (JR/Costa Mesa, Calif.) had UJ at match point. Austin Jacob (FR/Houston, Texas) powered home the decisive kill to send the Jimmies to their third straight win.

Correa had 34 of Jamestown’s 38 assists and was one of three Jimmies (Cox, Neumann) with seven digs. Jacob had two of UJ’s four solo blocks.

The series continues 7 p.m. Friday night at Harold Newman Arena

NBA..

— Tyus Jones scored a career-high 20 points and Dillon Brooks added 19 in the Grizzlies’ 122-94 romp over the Clippers. Kawhi (kah-WY’) Leonard scored 17 points and Paul George had 13, although George was stymied by a 3-for-12 shooting night as part of the Clippers’ 41% showing.

NBA-TIMBERWOLVES-BEASLEY

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard Malik Beasley has been suspended for 12 games without pay by the NBA for his recent guilty plea to a felony charge of threats of violence.

Beasley was sentenced earlier this month to 120 days in jail for the Sept. 26 incident, when he pointed a rifle outside his home in suburban Minneapolis at a family on a house-hunting tour.

The fifth-year pro is averaging a career-best 20.5 points.

Also in the NBA:

— The Jazz said they will “thoroughly investigate” an allegation from former NBA player Elijah Millsap that longtime team executive Dennis Lindsey directed a bigoted statement toward him during an end-of-season exit interview in 2015. The brother of former Jazz standout and current Denver forward Paul Millsap made the allegation in a tweet Wednesday. Millsap alleged that Lindsey said “if u say one more word, I’ll cut your Black ass and send you back to Louisiana.”

TOP 25 MEN’S BASKETBALL

UNDATED (AP) — Michigan had no trouble winning their second straight top-10 matchup.

Franz Wagner scored 21 points and freshman Hunter Dickinson shut down Luka Garza as the third-ranked Wolverines blew out No. 9 Iowa, 79-57. Garza led the Hawkeyes with 16 points, but he shot 6 of 19 from the field as Michigan became the first team to hold the Hawkeyes under 65 points this season.

The Hawkeyes went ahead 37-36 on Garza’s three-point play early in the second half, but Michigan immediately reeled off a 14-2 run to regain control.

Isaiah Livers scored 16 points for the Wolverines, who were coming off a 92-87 win over then-No. 4 Ohio State. Dickinson added 14 points.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL-NEWS

NCAA hands South Carolina 2-year probation for ex-assistant

UNDATED (AP) — South Carolina’s men’s basketball program has been placed on probation for two years.

The penalty stems from former assistant coach Lamont Evans accepting between $3,300 and $5,800 in bribes from a sports agent.

The case was part of the college basketball corruption trial in which Evans pleaded guilty to bribery conspiracy. The NCAA accepted South Carolina’s self-imposed penalties, which include a reduction in unofficial visits from prospects and a six-week ban in telephone recruiting.

In other college basketball news:

— The NCAA has come up with a contingency plan in case teams can’t play in the March Madness tournaments because of COVID-19. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate parliamentarian has dealt a potentially lethal blow to Democrats’ drive to hike the minimum wage, deciding that the cherished progressive goal must fall from a massive COVID-19 relief bill the party is trying to speed through Congress. The finding by Elizabeth MacDonough, the chamber’s nonpartisan arbiter of its rules, comes as Democrats prepare for House approval Friday of an initial version of the $1.9 trillion package that still includes the minimum wage boost. It also forces Democrats to make politically painful choices about what to do next on the minimum wage, which has long caused internal party rifts.

He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak of the attack. The Pentagon said the strikes were retaliation for a rocket attack in Iraq earlier this month that killed one civilian contractor and wounded a U.S. service member and other coalition troops.
