That’s according to a person with knowledge of the agreement. The 29-year-old Dozier had a breakthrough 2019 season in which he hit 26 homers, tied for the American League lead with 10 triples and drove in 84 runs. But he missed the start of last season with COVID-19 and wound up hitting just .228 with six homers and 12 RBIs in 44 games.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL-NEWS

UNDATED (AP) — Clemson starting cornerback Derion Kendrick is no longer part of the Tigers’ program. The 6-foot, 190-pound senior was a highly talented player who last season had several discipline issues and did not play in three games.

Kendrick becomes the second defensive starter gone from last year’s group, which finished 15th nationally with 326 yards allowed a game.

CHICAGO (AP) — The U.S. Soccer Federation’s athletes council has removed one its members, a day after he made a speech at the federation’s annual general meeting against removing an anti-kneeling policy.

Seth Jahn, a 38-year-old from Florida who played for the U.S. seven-a-side ParaOlympic team at the 2015 Parapan American Games, spoke against repeal of what was known as Policy 604-1, put in place in response to U.S. women’s team star Megan Rapinoe kneeling in support of Colin Kaepernick.

Jahn said those who kneel “don’t care about defending half of our country.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — China appears to be moving faster toward a capability to launch its newer nuclear missiles from underground silos. This could improve its ability to retaliate after absorbing a nuclear first strike. That’s according to an American expert who analyzed satellite images of recent construction at a missile training area. A longtime watcher of U.S., Russian and Chinese nuclear forces, Hans Kristensen, says the imagery suggests China is seeking to counter what it views as a growing threat from the United States. The U.S. points to China’s nuclear modernization as a justification for investing hundreds of billions of dollars to build an all-new nuclear arsenal.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Former President Donald Trump has called for Republican Party unity on his return to the political stage for the first time since losing the White House to Joe Biden. Trump closed out a conservative political conference in Florida on Sunday and told cheering attendees that he is sticking with the GOP and not forming a third party. Trump said Republicans would stand united, yet he also criticized those who supported his impeachment and denounced his incitement of rioters at the U.S. Capitol. The former president also repeated familiar falsehoods about the November election.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Congress is beginning debate on the biggest overhaul of U.S. elections law in a generation. Legislation from Democrats would touch virtually every aspect of the electoral process — striking down hurdles to voting, curbing partisan gerrymandering and curtailing big money in politics. Republicans see those very measures as a threat that would limit the power of states to conduct elections and ultimately benefit Democrats. The stakes are enormous with both control of Congress and President Joe Biden’s legislative agenda in the balance. But at its core, a more foundational principle of American democracy is at play: access to the ballot.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — President Joe Biden is planning a virtual meeting with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Monday’s meeting is a chance for them to talk more fully about migration, the coronavirus and economic and national security issues. Mexico’s president has said he intends to propose to Biden a new Bracero-style immigrant labor program that could bring 600,000 to 800,000 Mexican and Central American immigrants a year to work legally in the United States. A senior Biden administration official declines to say whether Biden will back or oppose the proposal. The original Bracero program allowed Mexicans to work temporarily in the U.S. to fill labor shortages during and after World War II.
