Herman R. Schmuhl, 91, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Farmstead Living, Moorhead.

Herman was born June 4, 1929 at Spiritwood, ND, the son of Bert and Bertha (Adorphy) Schmuhl.  He was raised on the family farm near Spiritwood, attending school there and Jamestown High School.  Herman entered the US Army on August 2, 1951 at Fargo, ND and served during the Korean conflict.  He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant on May 1, 1953 at Ft. Lewis, WA and became a member of the V.F.W.  Herman was united in marriage to Elaine J. Christ on October 2, 1953 at Wimbledon, ND.  He worked as a conductor for Northern Pacific railroad, retiring after 47 years.

Herman is survived by his wife, Elaine Schmuhl; son, Brian (Darla) Schmuhl; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and sister, Gerda.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother; sister; and two half-brothers.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Peter Simpson officiating.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.

Burial: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
