HILLSBORO, Kan  (UJ).– The University of Jamestown softball team returned to winning ways Monday, sweeping a doubleheader against Tabor College 4-1 and 12-0 in five innings.

The Jimmies, now 12-4 this season, have an off day Tuesday before playing a doubleheader at Bethany (Kan.) College on Wednesday.

Morgan Geiszler (JR/Horace, N.D.) was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and reached base in all four of her plate appearances in game one. Kassi Ward (JR/Olympia, Wash.) drove in a pair of runs while Santina Zito (SO/Boise, Idaho) and Gracie Fisher (FR/Bemidji, Minn.) each had one RBI.

The top five hitters in the UJ lineup (Geiszler, Mariah Wick (JR/Jamestown, N.D.), Ward, Zito, and Fisher) were a combined 7-for-15 with four runs and four RBI.

Katie Merchant (SO/South Haven, Minn.) (5-1) allowed just one unearned run on four hits in seven innings to get the win. She walked two and struck out nine.

Jamestown got hits from every starter in game two, finishing with 17 total, in a 12-0 win.

Steph Cota (SO/Tucson, Ariz.) went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead the way. Geiszler, Wick, and Ward all finished 2-for-3 while Zito, Katie Reisdorfer (JR/Fresno, Calif.), and Julia Byrne (SO/Andover, Minn.) were 2-for-4.

Wick drove in four runs and Zito three as all of UJ’s 17 hits were singles.

UJ led 2-0 after one, 6-0 after two, then broke the game open with six more runs in the fourth.

Lucy Sinkkonen (FR/Cloquet, Minn.) (2-2) and Becca Thompson (FR/Valley City, N.D.) combined to blank the Blue Jays on one hit. Sinkkonen struck out three in her three innings of work and Thompson came in for the final six outs. It was the fourth shutout of the season for the Jimmie pitching staff, which registered five shutouts in their previous 70 games.
