Day Two – NAIA National Invitational @ Jamestown, N.D. Results of the UJ women’s wrestling team finished seventh at the NAIA National Women’s Wrestling Invitational, which concluded Saturday evening at Harold Newman Arena.
Jamestown had seven wrestlers finish in the top eight of their respective weight class and earned All-American status.
Sierra Talmadge (JR/Bismarck, N.D.), the fifth seed at 170 pounds, was the top finisher for the Jimmies, placing third. She lost an 8-2 decision to top seed Alexandra Castillo of Campbellsville (Ky.) in the semifinals, then pinned seventh seed Jennifer Curry of Baker (Kan.) in 2:17 in the consolation semifinals. Talmadge won a 3-3 decision over third seed Hunter Robinson of Grand View (Iowa), coming back from a 3-0 deficit after the first period.
Arianna Marrufo (JR/Dos Palos, Calif.), the eighth seed at 116 pounds, won a 7-2 decision over Grand View’s Jasmine Alexander in the second consolation round of eight. She then won by 9-5 decision over fifth seed Serenity Durham-Goree of Midland (Neb.) to advance to the consolation semifinals, where she lost a 10-0 tech fall to third seed Stefana Jelacic of Lourdes (Ohio). In the fifth place match, Marrufo defeated teammate Josie Bartishofski (SO/Weston, Wis.) by 8-5 decision.
Allie Baudhuin (SO/Coppell, Texas), the seventh seed at 130 pounds, needed just 61 seconds to beat Willow Barnes of Missouri Valley by 10-0 tech fall in the second consolation round of eight. In the consolation round of four, Baudhuin won a 3-2 decision over Life (Ga.)’s Briana Kellin. Fourth seed De’anna Prince of Wayland Baptist (Texas) defeated Baudhuin by 12-8 decision in the consolation semifinals. Baudhuin claimed fifth after Waldorf (Iowa)’s Diana Dzasezeva was unable to wrestle due to injury.
Josie Bartishofski, the fourth seed at 116 pounds, lost by 10-0 tech fall to top seed Peyton Prussin of Life (Ga.) in the semifinals, then lost by 11-0 tech fall to second seed Camille Fournier of Texas Wesleyan in the consolation semifinals. She was defeated by teammate Arianna Marrufo in an 8-5 decision to place sixth.
Rayana Sahagun (FR/Rockford, Mich.), the second seed at 109 pounds, came back from an 8-4 first period deficit to defeat Lillianna Campbell of Missouri Valley by 11-8 decision in the second consolation round of eight. In the consolation round of four, Sahagun was pinned by fifth seed Emma Cochran of Grand View (Iowa) in 5:23. In the seventh place match, Sahagun won a 5-5 decision over Life (Ga.)’s Kory Phillips.
Luisita Jara (FR/Menifee, Calif.), the sixth seed at 136 pounds, lost a 13-0 tech fall to Savanna McCutchen of Missouri Valley in the consolation round of four and a 10-0 tech fall to fifth seed Angelina Prado of Life (Ga.) in the seventh place match.
Kelly La Cost (FR/Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), the seventh seed at 191 pounds, won a 3-0 decision over Olivia Robinson of Eastern Oregon in the second consolation round of eight. In the consolation round of four, La Cost lost a 3-0 decision to third seed MaQuoia Bernabe of University of the Cumberlands (Tenn.), and was pinned in 1:34 by fifth seed Catherine Palmieri of Life (Ga.) in the seventh place match.
Jamestown had 77 points as a team, a half-point better than eighth-place Grand View University. Campbellsville (Ky.) took first with 185 points, followed by Life (Ga.) with 134.5 points in second and Wayland Baptist in third with 100 points.
