SIOUX CENTER, Iowa  (UJ)  — The fourth-ranked University of Jamestown men’s volleyball team ended the regular season with a sweep of Dordt (Iowa) University, winning 25-15, 25-13, and 25-23.

Jamestown, now 18-2 overall and 6-0 in the GPAC, wraps up the GPAC regular season title and will be the top seed in the conference postseason tournament April 9-10 at Harold Newman Arena. Dordt finishes as the second seed with an overall record of 7-10 and 3-3 in conference play.

Derek Owens (FR/Andover, Minn.) had eight of the Jimmies’ 13 kills in set one, hitting .889 with no errors on nine swings. Caylor Cox (FR/Helena, Mont.) and Clark Steele (JR/Lake Forest, Calif.) each had a pair of kills in helping UJ finish with a .300 attack percentage for the set. Jamestown led by three points for most of the set and by just one at 13-12 before a 5-0 run made it 18-12. The Defenders would get within 19-15 only to have the Jimmies win the final six points of the set.

Jamestown made just two errors in the second set and hit .458 in taking set two. Clark Steele led the way with five kills and Tanner Woods (FR/Huntington Beach, Calif.) added three as the Jimmies never trailed. UJ had leads of 5-0 and 12-4 before opening up a pair of 11-point leads.

The teams battled in a competitive third set, with Dordt staying within one to two points for the majority of the set. Jamestown led 21-18 and the Defenders came back to tie. Tied again at 22, kills by Steele and Woods made it 24-22, and another Steele kill clinched the match. Steele and Woods both had five kills in the set while Cox supported the effort with four of his own.

Owens (13) and Steele (12) both finished the match with double figure kill totals. Owens hit a team-high .526 for the match. Derek Correa (FR/Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) passed out 38 assists and had seven digs. Austin Jacob (FR/Houston, Texas) had three block assists.
