Jamestown (JPD) – The Jamestown Police and Stutsman County Sheriff responded to calls for service, during the Saturday April 17 Runnin O’ The Green in Jamestown.

Jamestown Assistant Police Chief, Major Justin Blinsky reports police responded to 69 calls between of 2-p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m.Sunday.

He says some of the calls for service were directly related to the event and some were not.

Unlawful possession of alcoholic beverages, 16
(having/consuming alcohol outside of licensed liquor establishments)

Traffic Stops (wide range of infractions and some B Misdemeanor violations), 13

Aided Cases (calls which require police assistance, but do not have a criminal component) 5

foot patrol (calls where officers are walking through establishments/areas to be visible and act as a deterrent), 5

Drunkenness
(calls dealing with intoxicated individuals who are not capable of caring for themselves due to their intoxication levels), 4

Disorderly Conduct, 3

Local Ordinance violations 3

Suspicious activity
(calls where individuals are in areas or doing some activity which may be directly related to criminal activity)  3

Welfare Checks 2

Suicide Threatened 2

Trespassing 2

Disturbance Call (caller was annoyed by the noise created by the individuals on the run and made a comment about having a firearm and “taking care of things”) 1

Jamestown  (CSi)  Organizer, Larry Knoblic says, more participants than anticipated ran and walked in the 2021 Runnin O’ the Green, Saturday in Jamestown, estimated at around one-thousand, by Jamestown Police.
That’s compared to 1,500 the last time the run was held in 2019.

Several arrests were made, ranging from minor incidents to more serious ones.

The annual fundraising event gives donations to the Elk’s Camp Grassick and local cancer patients.

This year’s run was postponed about a month due to the COVID-19 pandemic and making changes for safety precautions.

It was  decided in 2o20 to cancel the event after postponements out of concerns with growing positive COVID-19 cases in line with mitigation efforts being stepped up, and before vaccines became available. The Runnin was recorded by CSi 10 The Replay Channel, look for announcements of the showing dates.

Jamestown  (CSi)  After a year’s absence in 2020 due to safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Runnin O’ The Green through Jamestown is set for Saturday April 17, 2021.

On Wednesday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Larry Knoblich said the health and safety of all participants is the paramount concern of the organizers.  The run helps raise funds for the  ND Elks Camp Grassick and local cancer patients.  The event brings back the largest charity event to our great community

Friday April 16th, 2021 – is Registration Night at the Elks beginning at 4:30pm.

At registration make your donation of $10, and then you will receive a participation tag, to indicate your donation has been made, to participate.

Saturday morning the day of, the run registration event at the Frontier Fort, the starting line, begins at 10-a.m. The first flight will take off at 2:00 PM sharp, and Larry adds the “flights” are expected to be around 75 runners, down from the 100 or so, to help maintain social distancing.

Larry points out that law enforcement officers will be patrolling the route, with some on foot patrol.  He reminds runners that there is to be no open containers of alcoholic beverage, on the street, which must be consumed in the bar.

He said those bars with outside seating will  try have that available in a closed in area, if possible, and to keep alcoholic beverages and consumption within that area.

Larry adds, that with the COVID-19 pandemic each individual needs to take personal responsibility to stay safe to help mitigate the spread of the virus.

He urges runners and motorists to be watchful for each other, and runners need to take care of each other for safety.

Larry thanks the Jamestown Elks Lodge for taking the lead in organizing this year’s Runnin O’ the Green.
