By screening with rapid antigen tests, event attendees will be able to receive their test results within 15 minutes via text notification. The test also is less invasive than a PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) test in that it uses a nasal swab to collect a sample from the lower part of the nostril.

If a person tests positive, they should isolate at home immediately and a case investigator will be in touch with them within 24 hours. If the screening yields a negative result, individuals should continue to monitor for symptoms.

Interested individuals should fill out an online survey at testreg.nd.gov for faster registration.

Jamestown  (JRMC)  — Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) recently announced K.C. Robison and Karen Tahran as its most recent Legend Award recipients.

The Legend Award is the most prestigious distinction for a JRMC employee. The Legend Award recognizes employees who exceed expectations and make THE difference in the lives of those they serve.

JRMC Admissions Clerk, Lori Vondal, nominated Robison, a registered nurse in the JRMC Cancer Center, because of his willingness to be THE difference by providing above and beyond quality care with patients by spending more time with them during a difficult time.

Vondal says, “K.C. Robison spent nearly 35 minutes with a patient that presented to the Cancer Center with a despiteful diagnosis. We all know this diagnosis affects a patient and their loved ones. ‘Cancer’ is always a horrible word to hear. Robison assured the patient that we are here to help him through this and that he should not stop living because of his diagnosis and just know his limits.”

JRMC Dr. W. Thomas Coombe, Ear, Nose & Throat specialist, nominated Tahran, an ENT nurse, because of her willingness to be THE difference by providing above and beyond quality care for patients with enthusiasm.

Dr. Coombe says, “Karen arrived each morning with cheerful enthusiasm and worked tirelessly to establish and hone the clinic processes, policies and procedures.  Quickly, the clinic was functioning smoothly but, Karen did not stop there. She continued to work on improvements and work flows, evident in the efficient smooth operation of the JRMC ENT clinic today. Over the past four years I never observed anything other than complete commitment from Karen. She is the best ENT nurse I have ever worked with in my long career.”

JRMC’s 350 employees cast anonymous votes to select each Legend Award winner.

The purpose of the Legend Award is to inspire, motivate and capture the moments that define JRMC. The goal is to help employees and volunteers connect to the sense of purpose that brought them to the organization. This award is for employees who’ve made extreme efforts to benefit their patients and colleagues.

JRMC President & CEO, Mike Delfs, says, “The nominations inspire staff members to continually be the best, exceed expectations and make THE difference in the lives of those we serve.”

Once nominated, both JRMC administration and employees vote on their favorite nominees and their stories.

Patricia Kline, Specialty Clinic Manager, says,  “K.C. and Karen are difference makers. They are reliable and experienced. We are grateful to have them part of our legendary team.”

The Legend Award first began in 2012. Since then, more than 35 individuals have been named Legends and more than 110 employees were nominated.

Bill Signing for HB 1175 to create and enact a new chapter to title 32 of the North Dakota Century Code, relating to business immunity from COVID‑19 liability claims; to provide for retroactive application; and to declare an emergency with Governor Doug Burgum and supporters of the bill.

Bismarck (CSi) – Gov. Doug Burgum Friday signed legislation that creates common-sense liability protections to shield health care providers, businesses and others from frivolous claims related to exposure to COVID-19.

Those joining Burgum for the signing of House Bill 1175 included the bill’s prime sponsor, Rep. Michael Howe, Senate Majority Leader Rich Wardner, Assistant Senate Majority Leader Jerry Klein, and Arik Spencer, president and CEO of the Greater North Dakota Chamber.

Burgum noted that North Dakota health care providers and businesses did their best to protect their patients, customers and team members through extremely challenging conditions and ever-changing rules and recommendations during the pandemic.

“It’s important that we provide common-sense protections for those North Dakotans who were doing everything they could,” Burgum said before signing the bill. “Legislation like House Bill 1175 will protect these businesses, organizations, medical providers and educational providers from frivolous lawsuits arising from COVID-19 exposure, while still allowing claims in situations that involved ill intentions or reckless acts.”

House Bill 1175 protects health care providers, businesses and other facilities from civil liability for any act in response to COVID-19 that causes or contributes to the death or injury of a person. It also protects an individual who designs, manufactures, labels, sells and distributes disinfecting or cleaning supplies that protect from COVID-19, from civil liability for personal injury, death or property damage. The bill does not protect against actions that constitute willful and wanton misconduct, or reckless or intentional infliction of harm.

The legislation applies retroactively to Jan. 1, 2020, covering the entire COVID-19 pandemic.

“With a higher and higher percentage of people getting vaccinated, we know that the light at the end of the tunnel grows closer, and this legislation will allow the health care system, businesses and our entire state to move forward with this protection and emerge stronger than ever,” Burgum said.

The governor thanked Howe, Klein and fellow bill sponsors, Reps. Glenn Bosch, Bill Devlin, Mike Lefor, Corey Mock and Sen. Randy Burckhard, as well as Wardner and House Majority Leader Chet Pollert, and the business and medical communities for their support and work on the legislation. The bill was approved 77-17 in the House and 41-6 in the Senate.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a passenger on a motorcycle was killed when the bike slammed into a railroad crossing gate in Minot. The patrol says the accident happened shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday. The motorcycle approached the crossing where the lighted crossing arms were down. Authorities say both the driver, a 42-year-old man, and the passenger, a 42-year-old woman, struck their heads on the crossing arm causing them to be thrown from the motorcycle. The woman was killed and the man was treated and released from the hospital. The patrol says the two were not wearing helmets.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) — Police are investigating hate messages that were found spray-painted on the outside of a mosque in the Fargo, North Dakota and Moorhead, Minnesota metropolitan area. Officers were dispatched to the Moorhead Fargo Islamic Community Center, which is located in Moorhead, about 5:20 a.m. Sunday. Police said the grafiti was found in several areas. Video surveillance from the building captured images of a suspect wearing a camouflage jacket and dark ski mask. The investigation by Moorhead police and Fargo office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is ongoing. Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson said in a statement that hate “will not have a home” in her city.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Attorneys for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in the Dakotas say the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers unlawfully authorized the Dakota Access pipeline without fully assessing the risks and are asking a judge to shut down the flow of oil while the Corps conducts a second environmental review. Standing Rock and other tribes filed a response in federal court Friday to a document by the owners of the pipeline who said shuttering the pipeline would be a crushing economic blow to several entities. Standing Rock says the figures by Dakota Access “rely on unsupported hearsay and exaggeration.” U.S. District Judge James Boasberg has not yet ruled on Standing Rock’s motion for an injunction to shut down the pipeline.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Bismarck police are investigating a train-pedestrian fatality that happened early Sunday in the city’s downtown. Bismarck Police Sgt. Scott Betz says officers were called at 12:08 a.m. to the crossing at South Fifth Street. The Bismarck Tribune reports that a man in his early 20s was killed. Betz did not describe the circumstances of the fatality and declined to release the man’s name. Police do not believe that was any foul play. No other injuries were reported.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Investigators are trying to determine what caused two fires at a Grand Forks motel. The Grand Forks Fire Department said in a news release Saturday that firefighters were dispatched to the Ambassador Motel about 9:30 p.m. Friday. They discovered fires in two areas of the building and put them out. The motel was vacant and no one was hurt. The department said the damage is estimated at more than $30,000.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A former Mandan official has been charged with identity theft for allegedly paying utility bills with money taken from a 92-year-old woman’s account. The Bismarck Tribune reports that 64-year-old Robert Christensen of Bismarck faces two felony charges of unauthorized use of personal identifying information and theft. According to a police affidavit, Christensen made seven Montana-Dakota Utilities payments from the woman’s account between 2017 and 2020 totaling nearly $2,000. Authorities have not said who the woman is or explain how she and Christian might be connected. Christensen served on the Mandan City Commission from 1991 to 1996 and was a Morton County commissioner from 1999 until 2006. He ran unsuccessfully for Mandan School Board in 2008.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota legislator has been charged with misdemeanor drunken driving. The Bismarck Tribune reports that House Assistant Majority Leader Scott Louser was charged Friday and will make his initial court appearance on May 12. Court documents show that the 49-year-old Minot Republican’s blood alcohol content when he was pulled over April 16 in Bismarck was 0.117%, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08%. He failed three field sobriety tests and refused another before he was taken to jail. He also mistakenly referred to a legislative intern who was with him as his attorney.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Dominic Gonnella ran for 163 yards and two touchdowns and Jalen Bussey ran for 143 yards and North Dakota State rallied from a two-touchdown deficit to smash Eastern Washington University 42-20 in an opening-round game of the FCS playoffs. The Bison advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 2-seed Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas on May 1. Eastern Washington scored three touchdowns in its first three possessions and built a 20-7 lead. The Bison then put an end to EWU’s upset bid establishing its running game and containing EWU’s offense. Drives of 68 and 64 yards resulted in a 1-yard scoring run by Hunter Luepke and a 4-yard pass from Cam Miller to Noah Gindorff respectively gave the Bison a 21-20 halftime advantage.

Saturday

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Tommy Schuster threw two first-quarter touchdown passes and North Dakota never trailed in its 44-10 win over Missouri State in the opening round of the FCS playoffs. The Fighting Hawks won their first playoff game since moving to the FCS in 2008. North Dakota (5-1) will play at third-seeded and No. 1 James Madison in the quarterfinals. Schuster hit Garrett Maag for a 50-yard touchdown before connecting with Bo Belquist for a 38-yard score on a flea flicker to make it 14-0 and the Fighting Hawks led the rest of the way. Missouri State (5-5), under first-year coach Bobby Petrino, went 5-1 in conference play to earn a share of the Missouri Valley Conference title after the Bears won just one game in 2019.

NBA..

UNDATED (AP) — The Brooklyn Nets were able to widen their lead in the NBA’s Eastern Conference following the return of one of their stars.

Kevin Durant poured in 33 points on 12 of 21 shooting in 28 minutes off the bench, helping the Nets earn a 128-119 win over the Suns. Durant missed three games after bruising his left thigh early in a loss to Miami last Sunday. He has been limited to just 25 games while the Nets have played a large portion of the season without their Big 3 of Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden in the same lineup.

Irving paced Brooklyn with 34 points and Blake Griffin added 15 as the Nets moved 1 1/2 games ahead of the 76ers.

Devin Booker scored 36 points and Deandre Ayton added 20 with 13 rebounds for the Suns, who are tied for second with the Clippers in the West and two games behind the Jazz.

— The Hornets had four players score at least 20 points in a 125-104 dismantling of the Celtics. Devonte Graham had 24 points and nine assists, while P.J. Washington chipped in with 22 points and 12 rebounds to help Charlotte pull within 1 1/2 games of Boston for the sixth seed in the East. Terry Rozier had 21 points and 11 assists and Miles Bridges stayed hot with 20 points.

— Lou Williams sank four 3-pointers in the final seven minutes, including a jumper that gave the Hawks their first lead in the second half of a 111-104 win over the Bucks. Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH’-nihs an-teh-toh-KOON’-poh) had 31 points with 14 rebounds, but the Bucks couldn’t complete a season sweep.

— Stephen Curry scored 37 points and set an NBA record for 3-pointers in a month at 85, leading the Warriors to a 117-113 verdict over the Kings. Curry shot 11 of 21 with seven more 3-pointers after the two-time MVP rolled his right ankle during Friday’s win against Denver. Kelly Oubre (OO’-bray) Jr.’s jumper with 1:42 left put Golden State ahead 112-111 before Richaun Holmes missed a pair of free throws at the 1:25 mark.

— Ja (jah) Morant had 28 points as the Grizzlies beat the Trail Blazers for the second time in three days, 120-113. Jonas Valanciunas (YOH’-nuhs val-ehn-CHOO’-nuhs) added 21 points and 10 boards in his return after missing three games because of concussion protocol. CJ McCollum had 27 points for the Blazers, who have lost five straight and nine of its last 11 to fall to seventh in the West, a half-game ahead of Memphis.

— Bradley Beal scored 33 points and the Wizards earned their eighth straight win by rallying past the Cavaliers, 119-110. Washington tied it at 105 on Beal’s 3-pointer with 4:55 remaining and closed on a 14-5 run. Backcourt mate Russell Westbrook had 14 points, 11 assists and five rebounds, ending his triple-double streak at four.

The Pittsburgh Penguins slid one point ahead of Washington with a 1-0 win over Boston. Tristan Jarry made 29 saves for his first shutout of the season and fourth consecutive win. Neither team scored until Jake Guentzel (GEHNT’-sul) beat rookie Jeremy Swayman 4:03 into the third period.

Pittsburgh has 14 wins and points in 16 of its last 19 games overall.

The Bruins have dropped two straight since a six-game winning streak, leaving them eight points out of first with two games in hand.

— The Lightning skated away with a 4-3 win over the Blue Jackets on Victor Hedman’s goal 10 seconds into overtime. Ondrej Palat (AHN’-dray pah-LAHT’) had a goal and two assists as Tampa Bay climbed within two points of Carolina for the Central Division lead. Kaapo Kakko (KAH’-poh KAH’-koh) added two goals and Kevin Rooney had an empty-netter as the Blueshirts pulled within four points of Boston for the final playoff spot in the East Division. Adam Fox had three assists and Igor Shesterkin (shehs-TUR’-kihn) made 31 saves in New York’s seventh win in 10 games.

— Claude Giroux (juh-ROO’) scored twice in 22 seconds to force overtime and was one of three Flyers to score in a shootout as Philadelphia beat the Devils, 4-3. Giroux scored quickly when the Flyers were in desperation mode with under 90 seconds to play and down by two goals. New Jersey is winless in its last 10 games.

MLB..

— Gregory Polanco homered among his three hits as the Pirates whipped the Twins, 6-2 to complete a 6-3 road trip. Pittsburgh’s bullpen allowed just three hits over five innings after Wil Crow needed 81 pitches to get through four innings.

— Fernando Tatís (tah-TEES’) Jr. scored on Eric Hosmer’s sacrifice fly in the 11th inning to give the Padres a dramatic 8-7 comeback win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles. The Padres trailed 7-1 in the seventh before scoring twice in three straight innings, with Manny Machado delivering the tying RBI single in the ninth.

UNDATED (AP) — The third-longest winning streak in Oakland Athletics history has come to an end.

The A’s had won 13 straight before Austin Hays hit a pair of home runs to back John Means in the Orioles’ 8-1 rout of the AL West leaders. Means lowered his ERA to 1.50 by limiting Oakland to just one run on two hits with six strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings.

Cedric Mullins had three hits for Baltimore, raising his average to .350. But the game was close until Maikel (MY’-kehl) Franco homered to ignite the Birds’ five-run eighth.

The Athletics’ win streak followed an 0-6 start.

Also around the majors:

— J.D. Martinez had two more doubles and Eduardo Rodriguez struck out eight Mariners in six innings to help the Red Sox beat the Mariners, 5-3 for a four-game split. Martinez leads the majors with 10 two-baggers and is tied with teammate Xander Bogaerts (BOH’-gahrts) for the major-leading lead with 30 hits.

— The Indians avoided a four-game sweep as Franmil (FRAHN’-meel) Reyes hit a three-run homer, tripled and had his first career stolen base in a 7-3 downing of the Yankees. Reyes homered in the fourth off Jameson Taillon (TY’-ahn) as Cleveland overcame a 3-0 deficit and took a 4-3 lead.

— Hyun Jin Ryu (hee-uhn jihn ree-OO’) was forced to leave early with a minor strain before five relievers completed the Blue Jays’ 1-0 shutout of the Rays. Ryu gave up three hits and struck out five in 3 2/3 innings but exited with right glute injury after giving up a single to Manuel Margot (mahn-WEHL mahr-GOH’).

— Danny Duffy pitched five scoreless innings and Hunter Dozier hit a solo homer for the Royals in their fourth straight win, 4-0 over the Tigers. Duffy has allowed one earned run in 23 innings so far this season.

— Michael Kopech (KOH’-pehk) struck out a career-high 10 in just five innings of the White Sox’s 8-4 trouncing of the Rangers. José Abreu homered and had three RBIs in Chicago’s fourth straight win.

— Shohei Ohtani’s (SHOH’-hay oh-TAH’-neez) tiebreaking solo home run in the eighth helped the Angels beat the Astros, 4-2 and end a four-game skid. Ohtani is tied for the MLB lead with seven home runs and is scheduled to pitch on Monday.

— The Diamondbacks blanked the Braves, 5-0 in Game 1 of a doubleheader as Zac Gallen tossed one-hit ball over seven innings. Stephen Vogt (voht) and Kole Calhoun homered to support Gallen, who had a no-hitter until Freddie Freeman’s one-out single in the sixth.

— Madison Bumgarner threw a seven-inning no-hitter as the Diamondbacks completed a sweep of the Braves, 7-0. Officially, Bumgarner’s gem won’t count on the all-time no-hit list after MLB determined in 1991 that a no-hitter was a game of nine or more innings that ended with no hits. Atlanta had just one hit during the entire twinbill.

— Logan Webb pitched three-hit ball over seven scoreless innings and collected his first career extra-base hit with a two-run triple as the Giants earned a 4-3 win over the Marlins. Mauricio Dubon added a pair of hits, including a squeeze-bunt single for San Francisco.

— The Mets took the rubber match of their three-game set as Taijuan (TY’-wahn) Walker limited the Nationals to three hits over seven innings of a 4-0 victory. J.D. Davis hit a two-run to help Walker earn his first win as a Met.

— Trevor Story hit a grand slam to cap a seven-run fourth that highlighted the Rockies’ 12-2 laugher over the Phillies. CJ Cron (krohn) had four of Colorado’s season-high, 16 hits, including a two-run homer in the eighth.

— The Brewers were 6-0 winners over the Cubs behind Brandon Woodruff, who surrendered just two hits while fanning eight over six innings. Luis Urías (oo-REE’-uhs) poked a two-run single during Milwaukee’s five-run ninth, helping Milwaukee close out a 5-1 road trip.

— The Reds’ losing streak is up to seven games after Tyler O’Neill homered twice to power the Cardinals to a 5-2 win versus Cincinnati. Jack Flaherty retired the first 10 batters and allowed just three hits over seven innings to improve to 4-0.

Tepera gets suspension reduction

UNDATED (AP) — Cubs reliever Ryan Tepera has won a partial appeal of his suspension for throwing at Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff in a game on April 13.

Tepera initially received a three-game suspension, which has been cut to two.

He began serving the penalty on Sunday.

In other baseball news:

— The Brewers are moving along with their plan for Christian Yelich (YEH’-lihch) after an MRI on the slugger’s strained lower back showed no major issues. Yelich hasn’t played since April 11 and was eligible to come off the injured list this weekend, but the 2018 NL MVP was sent back to Milwaukee to undergo the MRI.

— The Braves have sent Sean Kazmar Jr. to their alternate training site, a week after the infielder returned to the majors for the first time since 2008. The 36-year-old Kazmar became an instant feel-good story when Atlanta brought him up to the big leagues. Pitcher Drew Smyly came off the injured list and replaced Kazmar on the roster.

— The Marlins say their minor league complex in Jupiter, Florida, was shut down for the weekend after five players tested positive for COVID-19. The interruption is not expected to affect the start of the season for any of the Marlins’ four full-season affiliates who begin their schedules on May 4.

NASCAR-TALLADEGA

Keselowski nails down close win

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — Brad Keselowski finally got that last-lap victory, winning in overtime Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway.

Keselowski is the ninth driver to win through 10 NASCAR Cup races this season. He avenged the embarrassing Team Penske gaffe in the season-opening Daytona 500 when he and teammate Joey Logano triggered a last-lap crash.

Keselowski led just one lap in a race that featured 35 lead changes among 27 drivers.

William Byron was second, Daytona 500 winner Michael McDowell third and Kevin Harvick a season-high fourth.

INDY-CAR-ST. PETERSBURG

Herta gets fourth career win

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Colton Herta scored his fourth IndyCar victory to match the same total his father, Bryan, achieved over his own 12-year career.

Herta started from the pole at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix and led a race-record 97 of the 100 laps to win his first race with Bryan Herta as his race strategist.

Josef Newgarden finished second and was denied a third consecutive victory at St. Petersburg. He was followed by Team Penske teammate Simon Pagenaud (see-MOHN’ PA’-zheh-noh).

PGA-ZURICH CLASSIC

Smith-Leishman wins Zurich Classic in playoff

AVONDALE, La. (AP) — Cameron Smith and Marc Leishman outlasted Louis Oosthuizen (WUHST’-hy-zehn) and Charl Schwartzel to win the Zurich Classic in a playoff that capped a tight and tense final round.

Smith and Leishman won with a par on their second trip up the par-5 18th after Oosthuizen pushed his tee shot into the water and narrowly missed an 11-foot putt for par.

The Australians forced the playoff by shooting a 2-under 70 in alternate-shot play at the PGA Tour’s lone regular-season team event. Oosthuizen and Schwartzel began the round with a one-stroke lead, but shot a 71 with three pars and two bogeys.

In world and national news…

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) — Michigan has become the current national hotspot for COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations at a time when more than half the U.S. adult population has been vaccinated and other states have seen the virus diminish substantially. Medical professionals point to more contagious variants, the state’s pullback on restrictions to limit crowds and COVID fatigue as reasons for the surge, especially in rural, northern parts of the state that had largely avoided severe outbreaks. Michigan has posted more new COVID-19 cases than any other state in the country over the past two weeks, which is all the more striking considering it has 10 million population and bigger states like California and Texas don’t have anywhere near the cases as Michigan.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The accelerated COVID-19 vaccine rollout, along with the Biden administration’s rescue aid policies, should help deliver a significant boost to the U.S. economy over the next year as it extends its recovery from the pandemic recession. That’s the view of a majority of business economists that emerges from a survey being released Monday by the National Association for Business Economics. The results, based on responses from 97 NABE members earlier this month, found that two-thirds say that the vaccine distribution and the administration’s policies have elevated their outlook for the economy. That’s up from just over half who said so in a survey done in January.

The Census Bureau says it will be releasing the numbers used for determining how many congressional seats each state gets on Monday. The release of the apportionment numbers Monday afternoon comes almost four months later than planned because of delays caused by the pandemic and anomalies discovered in the data as the numbers were being crunched. The numbers are state population counts that show how many residents each state has gained or lost over the past decade. The 435 seats in the House of Representatives are divided among the states based on population. As growing states get more seats, that means fewer seats for states that lost population.

BANGKOK (AP) — World shares are mixed as worries over the pandemic cloud the outlook for a recovery from the crisis. Tokyo and Paris advanced on Monday, while Frankfurt and London were almost unchanged. Benchmarks fell in Hong Kong and Shanghai and U.S. futures were mixed. Markets have mostly taken in stride recent setbacks in the recovery from the pandemic as infections have come roaring back in Japan, Thailand and India, among other countries. Stocks climbed Friday in New York, though the S&P 500 still ended with its first weekly loss in the last five. Technology stocks and banks led much of the gains.

(AP) The Biden administration is expanding a program to feed up to 34 million schoolchildren during the summer months. The expanded program uses funds from the coronavirus relief package approved in March. The Agriculture Department is announcing Monday it will continue through the summer a payments program that replaced school meals because the pandemic left many children with virtual classes. Families of eligible children would receive $6.82 per child for each weekday. That adds up to $375 per child over the summer months. The program reflects the Biden administration’s attempts to nearly stamp out child poverty. Conservative critics say the spending, if made permanent, could undermine the willingness of poorer Americans to work.

(AP)  Chloé Zhao’s “Nomadland,” won best picture Sunday at the 93rd Academy Awards, where the China-born Zhao also became just the second woman — and the first woman of color — to win best director. “Nomadland” also earned Frances McDormand an Oscar for her lead performance in the wistful portrait of itinerant lives on open roads across the American West. Anthony Hopkins took the best actor award for the dementia drama, “The Father.” Daniel Kaluuya won best supporting actor for “Judas and the Black Messiah, while best supporting actress went to Youn Yuh-jung, who played the matriarch of Lee Isaac Chung’s tender Korean-American family drama, “Minari.””

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Academy Award for best actor has gone to Anthony Hopkins for “The Father.” It’s the second Oscar for Hopkins, and comes nearly 30 years after his first in 1992, for playing Hannibal Lecter in “The Silence of the Lambs.” He’s been nominated four times since without a win. Hopkins was not on hand to accept the award. It was an upset win — many had expected Chadwick Boseman to win for his final film role in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.”Hopkins won the Oscar Sunday night for his role as a man who battles with dementia opposite Olivia Colman in the film directed by Florian Zeller.

OSCARS-BEST ACTRESS

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Frances McDormand has two more Oscars. She may hang on to them a little more tightly. McDormand won the Academy Award for best actress for her performance in “Nomadland.” The movie also won best picture and McDormand collected a trophy as a producer. She won best actress honors in 2018 for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” That Oscar was stolen at the post-show Governors Ball, though it was quickly recovered. McDormand’s first best actress win came in 1996 for “Fargo.” McDormand won over front-runner Carey Mulligan of “Promising Young Woman” and Viola Davis of “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Andra Day of “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” and Vanessa Kirby of “Pieces of a Woman” were first-time nominees.
