WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. is opening COVID-19 vaccine boosters to all adults, and urging them for anyone 50 and older. The decision Friday seeks to simplify what has been a confusing list of who’s eligible. Now for anyone 18 or older, the only requirement is to be at least six months past their last dose of a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or two months past the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The government is trying to get ahead of rising coronavirus cases that experts fear could snowball into a winter surge with upcoming holiday travel.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Department of Health has switched off comments on its social media accounts, saying it was doing so to combat the spread of misinformation. The agency says in a statement that its social media accounts “will continue to be a source for sharing verified public health information.” The agency says the comment ban that began Tuesday “will be applied to all posts, and not be specific to any particular topic.” The posts on the North Dakota health department’s Facebook page immediately following the announcement were mixed, with some people applauding the agency, while others complained it discounted other viewpoints.

Four additional COVID-19-related deaths occurred over the weekend in North Dakota, but state health officials say the number of active coronavirus cases continues a downward trend. Health officials on Monday reported fewer than 200 news cases sending the number of active cases to 3,030, the lowest level in more than a month. Cases statewide have been trending downward after a recent spike that began in late summer with the onset of the highly contagious delta variant. Health officials say the state’s 14-day average positivity rate dropped below 7% for the first time in a month, to 6.9%, health officials reported.

(AP) Pfizer says its COVID-19 vaccine works for children ages 5 to 11. The vaccine maker said Monday it plans to seek authorization for this age group soon in the U.S., Britain and Europe. The vaccine made by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech already is available for anyone 12 and older. But many parents are anxiously awaiting vaccinations for their younger children. Pfizer studied a lower dose of its two-dose vaccine in more than 2,200 kindergartners and elementary school-aged kids. The kids developed coronavirus-fighting antibody levels just as strong as teenagers and young adults.

Please be advised that a number of COVID-19 test results intended to be entered into the NDDoH COVID-19 dashboard on Tuesday, September 14, were held back by a minor reporting technology issue.
The technology circumstance that led to this delay has been resolved. Due to automation, the number of tests reported Wednesday includes partial data from Tuesday. The overall number of current active cases and rolling positivity rate are correct.
The state continues to see an increase in the number of positive cases across the state and encourages North Dakotans to take precautions to protect against COVID-19.

Gov. Doug Burgum is pleading for citizens to get vaccinated against the coronavirus as North Dakota’s hospitals struggle with an influx of patients infected with the highly contagious delta variant.
North Dakota ranks 45th in the country in the percentage of residents who are fully vaccinated and officials say the numbers are particularly worrisome in the western part of the state. There are 22 counties, all in the eastern third of the state, with vaccination rates of at least one dose between 50% and 60%. Of the remaining 31 counties, only two have rates more than 50%, with many numbers much lower than that. That is quickly translating into higher incidents of COVID-19. Republican Gov. Doug Burgum says politicization of the virus has led to the “death of the expert” and people don’t know who to trust about vaccines. He suggests people talk with their doctors.

North Dakota health officials are confirming 520 new cases of the coronavirus, the highest reported daily total since mid-December. Officials say the increase in COVID-19 cases in recent weeks is due to the highly contagious delta variant of the coronavirus. Over the past two weeks, the rolling average number of daily new cases has increased by nearly 129%. Johns Hopkins University researchers say one in every 519 people in North Dakota tested positive in the past week. The cases posted Tuesday were the most since 575 tests came back positive on Dec. 10, 2020. The update came a day after a small group of North Dakota State University students marched around campus to protest a university rule that requires masks to be worn in classes and hallways.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Coronavirus-related deaths are mounting in North Dakota as COVID-19 cases spike due to the highly contagious delta variant. The state Health Department’s virus dashboard on Friday showed four more deaths, and the ninth this week. The deaths are the most in one week since late January. The new deaths brought North Dakota’s pandemic toll to 1,560. Sixty-two COVID-19 patients remained in a hospital Friday, unchanged from the previous day. Health officials say unvaccinated people make up the bulk of hospitalized virus patients.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. has given full approval to the COVID-19 vaccine made by Pfizer. The Food and Drug Administration’s decision on Monday may help lift public confidence in vaccinations as the nation battles the most contagious coronavirus mutant yet. The FDA has never before had so much evidence to judge a shot’s safety. More than 200 million doses already have been administered in the U.S. since emergency use began in December. The decision could push some vaccine holdouts toward getting the shots. And it could spur more vaccine mandates by companies, universities and local governments.
The North Dakota Department of Health on Monday held a news conference on COVID-19 updates.

(AP) The latest guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says people who are fully vaccinated should get tested three to five days after a potential exposure, even if they don’t have symptoms.
That change comes two months after the agency eased its initial testing guidance. In May, the CDC said vaccinated people face very little risk of serious illness and don’t need to be tested in most cases, even if exposed to someone who was sick. The thinking was that vaccinated people also weren’t likely to spread it to others.
But the agency says it’s reversing that guidance because of the more contagious delta variant, which now accounts for most Covid-19 infections.
The Covid-19 vaccines are still very good at protecting people from getting seriously ill, but the CDC says new data shows vaccinated people infected with the delta variant could spread it to others.
Doctors, nurses and other health care workers should consult with their employers, some of whom may require routine testing for their staff. People working in prisons and homeless shelters are also generally subject to stepped-up testing requirements.
U.S. citizens returning from abroad still have to present a negative Covid-19 test before boarding their flights home, regardless of their vaccination status. Anyone who tests positive for Covid-19 should still isolate for 10 days, the CDC says.

Bismarck (NDDoH) The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) has collaborated with North Dakota Information Technology (NDIT) to make COVID-19 test result reports available to view, download and print in a single location. Individuals who have registered through TestReg.nd.gov can now access their COVID-19 test result reports for tests that were resulted after June 10th, 2021.
“The Citizen Portal provides North Dakotans access to their COVID-19 test result reports when and where they need them,” said Nicole Brunelle, chief nursing officer at NDDoH. “Being able to access these results for travel, employers, medical procedures, etc., as needed is a service we are excited to make available. This is one of many resources available for North Dakotans. We encourage everyone to take advantage of testing as they prepare to travel and make plans for the summer,” said Brunelle.
To use the Citizen Portal, individuals will need to create or use an existing NDLogin to associate it with their TestReg registration account.
This can be done one of two ways – by clicking on the link for “Long-Form Results” in a recently received test result e-notification or by going to TestReg.nd.gov and choosing the “continue registration with account setup” option. By registering, an individual’s existing NDLogin will then be associated with their COVID-19 test result reports.
Instructions and FAQs regarding how to access test results on the Citizen Portal can be found on the DoH website.
An NDLogin is an account that can be used to access multiple online services provided by the North Dakota state government without the need to create a new account for each service. By having a common NDLogin, individuals will only need to remember one username and password to access numerous state agency online services. Some individuals may already have an NDLogin account associated with another agency such as Parks and Recreations, Game & Fish, Workforce Safety & Insurance (WSI), or Job Service North Dakota (JSND).
“The Citizen Portal is simple to register for and simple to use,” said Kris Vollmer, NDIT senior program manager. “It’s allowing us to leverage a technology platform to provide North Dakota residents with an easy to use, convenient means to access their COVID-19 testing information, all within a secure location.”
For assistance with the NDLogin, contact the North Dakota Information Technology (NDIT) Service Desk at (877) 328-4470.
For assistance with COVID-19 test results, the NDDoH hotline is open Monday-Saturday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. by calling 701-204-6664 or completing the online “Request your Results” survey or through the online “Travel Test Results” survey.
Additional NDDoH traveler resources can be found online at health.nd.gov/covidtravel.

BISMARCK, N.D, (AP) — North Dakota health officials continue to document few new cases of COVID-19, but the state’s vaccination rate remains low as a new coronavirus variant that’s gaining a foothold around the country emerges in the state. Only 14 new virus cases were confirmed Saturday and just over 100 have been confirmed all week. North Dakota has 14-day rolling average test positivity rate of 1.57%. One new death was confirmed Saturday. North Dakota health officials on Thursday reported that the new delta coronavirus variant has been documented in the state for the first time.
