Jamestown (JRMC) In celebration of Running of the Pink and JRMC’s new Gynecologist, Dr. Gregg McAdoo, JRMC and Central Valley Health are offering a special No Excuses Screening from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 15.
No Excuses can accept patients into the evening. at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
Schedule a No Excuses appointment online or over the phone at (701) 952-5348. To schedule care for any other day, call (701) 952-4878 or request an appointment online.
Katie Ryan-Anderson with the JRMC says this is important to us as we know transportation, finances and time in the day, that are often barriers when it comes to 3D mammograms and cervical screenings.
On a recent Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Tara Kapp with the Runnin of the Pink event which raises funds for the Women’s Way, and No Excuses programs said, a study conducted by the Jamestown Regional Medical Center, found that nearly 50 percent of women in Stutsman County had not received a needed screening. The hope with No Excuses is to remove any barriers that might be the cause of women not having those screenings.
Jamestown (JRMC) — Jamestown Regional Medical Center announces a new tobacco treatment for patients admitted to the hospital.
JRMC partnered with the North Dakota Department of Health’s Quit Line to connect admitted patients to tobacco cessation services.
This treatment is important, said Dr. Rachael Renschler, podiatrist/foot & ankle surgeon and chief of the JRMC Specialty Clinic. Tobacco and nicotine use delays and interrupts the healing process.
She says, “Whether the patients in our hospital are recovering from surgery or the flu, recovery has fewer complications and is faster without tobacco use. Offering this treatment while a patient is already in our care supports them in their immediate recovery as well as their long-term health.”
JRMC received a grant from the North Dakota Department of Health to offer the supplies, training and patient education for the program. Already, three respiratory therapists, Gretchen Trebas, Erin Stewart and Nicole Brandvold, are trained to support patients in the tobacco-cessation journey.
Brandvold says, “This program is important to me because most people know they should stop using tobacco but aren’t sure how to go about it. Our training has taught us how to help so that we can give our patients the best care possible. We are excited to support our patients.”
Though the program is year-round, the state offers a special event this month.
“It’s Quitting Time” is the North Dakota Department of Health’s Tobacco Free program. The program encourages tobacco and e-cigarette users to set a quit date during “It’s Quitting Time” on June 14-20.
Tobacco cessation is part of what makes JRMC a destination for care in the region, said Mallory Schultz. Schultz is JRMC’s laboratory and respiratory therapy manager.
She says, “The reason we continue to receive awards like Top 20 Critical Access Hospital in the country and Top 100 Best Place to Work is because we care about the whole patient. These people are our friends and neighbors. We care about their health, before, during and after their care here.”
The tobacco cessation program is also available to outpatient individuals, meaning, they don’t have to be admitted to JRMC. The program is available at no cost to inpatients, and includes two weeks of nicotine replacement therapy. The pricing for outpatient is $50 for the initial one-hour meeting and $25 for each additional half hour follow-up meeting.
To learn more about tobacco cessation at JRMC, call (701) 952-4858.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says popular boat ramps on Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota should remain in operation until freeze-up despite the dry conditions. The lake is about 6 feet lower than it was at this time a year ago. The Corps says it should peak about 1,838 feet at the end of July before dropping to about 1,836 feet at the end of October. Even at that elevation all of the primary boat ramps on Lake Sakakawea should remain in service. The Minot Daily News reports that the reservoir would have to drop many feet below current levels before any of the lake’s primary boat ramps would become questionable for use.

(AP) Vaccine maker Novavax says its shot is highly effective against COVID-19 and also protects against variants. The Maryland-based company on Monday announced results from a large, late-stage study in the U.S. and Mexico that found its vaccine was about 90% effective. Preliminary data also showed it was safe. Novavax previously released results from smaller studies in Britain and South Africa. The company plans by the end of September to file for emergency use authorization in the U.S., Europe and elsewhere. Novavax’s vaccine is made by growing harmless copies of the coronavirus spike protein in the laboratory.
LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to confirm that the next planned relaxation of coronavirus restrictions in England will be delayed as a result of the spread of the delta variant first identified in India. Johnson conceded while hosting the Group of Seven summit over the weekend that he’d grown more pessimistic about the government lifting remaining limits on social contact on June 21. With the delta variant estimated by some experts to be at least 60% more contagious than the previous dominant strain, scientists and doctors urged the prime minister to err on the side of caution. Nightclubs had been set to reopen on what some British media dubbed “Freedom Day.”
BRUSSELS (AP) — NATO is set to expand the use of its all for one, one for all, collective defense clause to include attacks in space. Article 5 of NATO’s treaty states that an attack on any one of the 30 allies will be considered an attack on them all. So far, it’s only applied to traditional military attacks on land, sea, or in the air, and more recently in cyberspace. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that at Monday’s summit the leaders will make clear that “any attack on space capabilities like satellites and so on or attacks from space will or could trigger Article 5.” The defense clause has only been activated once, after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.
HONG KONG (AP) — The French joint operator of a Chinese nuclear plant near Hong Kong says it is dealing with a “performance issue” but is currently operating within safety limits, following a report of a potential radioactive leak. The Taishan Nuclear Power Plant is jointly owned by China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group and French multinational electric utility Électricité de France, the main owner of Framotome, which helps operate the plant. Framatome says it is “supporting resolution of a performance issue” at the plant. It says the plant is operating within safety parameters according to available data, and that Framatome is working to “propose solutions to address any potential issue.”
BEIJING (AP) — Global stock markets have risen as investors look ahead to this week’s Federal Reserve meeting for hints of possible changes in ultra-low interest rates and other economic stimulus. London and Frankfurt opened higher while Tokyo also gained. Markets in China and Hong Kong were closed for a holiday. Trading has been muted as investors wait for Wednesday’s Fed meeting for signs of whether U.S. central bankers are turning more hawkish following a rise in inflation. No policy changes are expected immediately, but any shift in language in Fed comments might fuel fears bond purchases and other stimulus will wind down.
JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel has a new prime minister for the first time in 12 years after Naftali Bennett secured the backing of parliament and ousted longtime leader Benjamin Netanyahu. The two were slated to hold a handover meeting on Monday, but without the formal ceremony that traditionally accompanies a change in government. The new government was sworn in late on Sunday and set to work on Monday morning, with ministers announcing appointments of new ministry directors. A Netanyahu aide said the former prime minister was “full of motivation” as he assumes a role in the opposition “to topple this dangerous government as soon as possible.”
