Jamestown   – Valley City State’s Rory Gentzkow and Hayley Shanks recorded Top 10 finishes in the Vikings’ season opener at the Jimmie Fall Invite held Sunday and Monday at the Jamestown Country Club.

Gentzkow carded a four-over-par 76 on Sunday and was in a tie for fifth place after day one of the tournament. He then fired an even-par 72 on Monday, including four birdies, to move into a runner-up finish with a two-day score of 148.

Shanks was also in a tie for fifth place after the opening round, finishing with an 86 on Sunday. She improved her score to an 85 on Monday and finished in sixth place with a two-day total of 171.

The Viking men finished in ninth place as a team with a two-day score of 675. The Vikings shot a 349 on Sunday and a 326 on Monday – shaving 23 strokes off their team score. Senior Jayden Ewoniuk finished in 20th place after carding a 160 (82-78). Ian Jelsing finished with a 173 (88-85), and Kase Pike finished with a 194 (103-91) to round out the men’s team score.

University of Jamestown’s top team took first place with a two-day team score of 601 (303-298). Jamestown’s Tate Olson took medalist honors with a four-under-par score of 140 (70-70).

The University of Jamestown women’s golf team finished second at the Jimmie Fall Invite.

JIMMIE FALL INVITE RESULTS

The Jimmie Orange team finished a combined 121-over par to finish 38 shots in back of Minot State University.  Minot State’s Anya Ross took first with a 15-over 159 (78-81).

The Viking women finished in fifth place after a two-day score of 746 (375-371). Ashley McKittrick finished in 18th place with a 185 (92-93) and Jocelyn Braunberger placed 21st with a 190 (93-97). Nevaeh Davis finished with a 200 (104-96) and Megan Haugrud shot a 219 (114-105) to round out the women’s team score.

Freshman Sydney Staus finished in 29th place and carded a 228 (121-107) while competing as an individual.

Minot State took first place on the women’s side, finishing with a 659 (326-333). Minot’s Anya Ross was the women’s medalist after finishing with a 15-over-par 159 (78-81).

UP NEXT: Valley City State cohosts a tournament with Dickinson State on Sept. 13-14 at CrossRoads Golf Club in Carrington, N.D.

Jamestown returns to action September 11-12 at the Mount Mercy Invite in Marion, Iowa, at Hunters Ridge GC.
