CRETE, Neb. (UJ) — The University of Jamestown football team lost its second straight game Saturday afternoon, falling 44-20 to Doane University.
Jamestown, now 2-3 overall and 2-2 in the GPAC, will host Concordia (Neb.) University next Saturday at 1 p.m. in the annual Homecoming game.
Doane led 17-0 before the Jimmies got on the board with 49 seconds left in the first half. Cade Torgerson (JR/Billings, Mont.) found Isaiah Roebuck (FR/Marana, Ariz.) from 17 yards out and the Izaak Myles (JR/Apple Valley, Calif.) extra point made it 17-7 going into the third quarter.
On the third play of the Doane’s opening drive of the second half, the Jimmies recovered a fumble at the Doane 31-yard line. Three plays later, Torgerson threw a 22-yard touchdown pass, and UJ trailed by only four at 17-13 with 12:39 left in the third quarter.
The Tigers then scored 27 unanswered points to go ahead 44-13 after a three-yard touchdown run by LJ Butler with 2:35 remaining.
Roebuck caught his second touchdown pass of the game, a 29-yarder from Christian Owens (SO/Las Vegas, Nev.), with 46 seconds left for the final Jimmie score.
Torgerson completed 17-of-41 passes for 172 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Roebuck led the Jamestown receivers with five catches for 89 yards and Sidney Luna-Long (SO/Pasadena, Calif.) had three grabs for 34 yards.
Parker Hager (FR/Steele, N.D.) led the defense with eight total tackles, followed by David Diaz (FR/Winter Garden, Fla.) with seven. Rashawn Benners (FR/Dayton, Ohio), Paul Vandal (SO/Jamestown, N.D.), and Ezra Belingheri (FR/Sparks, Nev.) each had a sack, and Jordan Olson (JR/Prior Lake, Minn.) and Rob Anderson (FR/Alexandria, Minn.) both had an interception.
