SIOUX CITY, Iowa (UJ) — For the second time this season, the top-ranked University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team needed just three sets to defeat Briar Cliff University. UJ defeated the Chargers Saturday night 25-16, 25-10, 25-14.
The Jimmies are now 19-0 and 8-0 in the GPAC and are back in action next Friday at No. 13 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University.
Jamestown showed no ill effects after their second straight match on the road, outhitting Briar Cliff .326 to -.031. UJ had 43 kills to the Chargers’ 17, and made only 12 attack errors to BCU’s 20.
UJ never trailed in the match, taking leads of 11-3 in the first, 16-5 in the second, and 16-6 in the third. Briar Cliff only had two or more straight points on nine occasions, compared to 18 for the Jimmies.
Kalli Hegerle (JR/West Fargo, N.D.) posted a team-high 10 kills, while Aleah Zieske (FR/Spicer, Minn.) had eight and Jayla Ritter (JR/Forest Lake, Minn.) seven. Ritter hit a team-best .429 on 14 attempts with only one error.
Jackie Meiklejohn (JR/Dickey, N.D.) recorded 20 assists and seven digs, and Megan Gaffaney (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) added 15 assists and three service aces.
Ellie Holen (FR/LaMoure, N.D.)’s 16 digs were a match-high, while Anna Holen (JR/LaMoure, N.D.) had 12 and Hannah Schiele (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) 10. Corina Huff (SR/Pequot Lakes, Minn.) was in on five block assists followed by Hegerle with four.
