VCSU 24 Jamestown 4 (7-Innings of scheduled 9-inning game)
(UJ) The Valley City State University Vikings scored six runs in the top of the second, the first of five straight innings with three or more runs, in a 24-4 win over the University of Jamestown baseball team Sunday afternoon.
The loss drops the Jimmies’ record to 2-3 this fall. UJ returns to action with a pair of seven-inning games against Dickinson State on Monday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. from Jack Brown Stadium.
Jamestown got on the board in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout by Bauer Sewell (FR/Calgary, AB, Canada) that scored Quade Peters (FR/West Fargo, ND).
Kendall Yackley (JR/Lynnwood, WA) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, and Peters scored on a wild pitch in the fifth. Noah Ford (SO/Harbor City, CA)’s solo home run in the bottom of the seventh rounded out the UJ scoring.
Jamestown managed six hits against two VCSU pitchers. Tayler Cullen (SR/Santa Rosa, Calif.), Trent Peters (SO/Niverville, MB, Canada), and Ryan Muizelaar (FR/Grand Forks, ND) joined Yackley, Peters, and Ford with hits in the game.
Ethan Krupp (SO/Corvallis, OR) started on the mound and went an inning-plus, giving up four runs on three hits, walking three and striking out one.
