Women’s Volleyball
MITCHELL, S.D. (UJ) — The No. 1 University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team won its 20th straight match Friday, defeating Dakota Wesleyan University in three sets.
Jamestown remains unbeaten at 20-0 overall and 9-0 in the GPAC with a Saturday match at Mount Marty (S.D.) University.
Trailing 11-10 in the first set, the Jimmies took the next six points for a 16-11 lead. UJ never looked back as the Tigers were unable to get any closer than four points the rest of the way.
DWU held a 13-12 edge in set two before going on a 7-0 run to put the Jimmies down by eight late in the set. Jamestown regained momentum, winning six of the next eight points to close within 22-19 and force a Tiger timeout. Kills by Kalli Hegerle (JR/West Fargo, N.D.) and Aleah Zieske (FR/Spicer, Minn.) made it a one-point deficit, and after the teams traded points, DWU had Jamestown at set point. Zieske, Anna Holen (JR/LaMoure, N.D.), and Corina Huff (SR/Pequot Lakes, Minn.) each had a kill and a service ace by Hannah Schiele (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) completed the comeback.
The third set was once again highly contested as led by more than two until UJ went ahead 14-11. The Jimmies kept that three-point lead at 19-16, only to have DWU rally to pull in front 21-20. Back-to-back kills put Jamestown ahead by one, then the Tigers responded with back-to-back kills as well. Zieske’s kill tied the set, then a DWU attack error made it 24-23 Jimmies and forced a timeout. Out of the timeout, Megan Gaffaney (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) set Huff up with the match-clinching kill.
Huff had a team-high 13 kills, followed by Hegerle with 12 and Anna Holen with 10. Jackie Meiklejohn (JR/Dickey, N.D.) had 27 assists as the Jimmies hit .211 for the match.
Ellie Holen (FR/LaMoure, N.D.) had 19 digs, while Anna Holen finished with 16 and Schiele 10. Ritter had four total blocks.

Midland University 6 Jamestown 4
FREMONT, Neb.– Midland University took a two-goal lead early in the third period Friday night and held off the University of Jamestown hockey team 6-4 in the opening game of this weekend’s series.

Women
(UJ) The University of Jamestown women’s cross country team had four runners compete at the Jimmie Invite Friday at Parkhurst Cross Country Course.
Paige Erbstoesser (FR/West Fargo, N.D.) was the first runner to cross for UJ, finishing 32nd in a time of 21 minutes, 37 seconds. Elise Cummins (FR/Sparks, Nev.) was 39th in a time of 23:26, followed by Silje Kindseth (FR/Grand Forks, N.D.) (45th, 24:47), and Jennifer Tallackson (FR/Wheatland, N.D.) (48th, 25:03).
Alyssa Becker of U-Mary was the top finisher in 18:15, and the Marauders won the team title.
Jamestown returns to action October 23 at the Mount Marty Invite in Yankton, S.D.
Men
(UJ) The University of Jamestown men’s cross country team finished seventh at the Jimmie Invite Friday at Parkhurst Cross Country Course.
Drew Hjelmstad (FR/Maple Grove, Minn.) was the top finisher for Jamestown, placing 23rd in a time of 28 minutes, 43 seconds. Micah Hoke (FR/Jamestown, N.D.) was 31st in 29:47, followed by Alex Walker (FR/Lakewood, Colo.) (37th, 30:08), David Martin (JR/Wasco, Calif.) (42nd, 30:24), and Kadin Neppl (FR/Maddock, N.D.) (44th, 30:58).
Also running for the Jimmies were Kanyon Vermillion (FR/Henderson, Nev.) (45th, 31:03), Noah Mang (JR/West Chester, Ohio) (46th, 31:10), Ethan Sherva (FR/Portland, N.D.) (47th, 31:17), Corbin Cornelius (FR/Wahpeton, N.D.) (50th, 34:07), Jacob Juelfs (SR/Medina, N.D.) (54th, 39:48), and Lee Von Stanke (SR/Goolwa, South Australia) (56th, 51:21).
The University of Mary took the team title and had the top finisher in Jesse Kaas (25:32).
UJ’s next race is the Mount Marty Invitational in Yankton, S.D., on October 23.
