YANKTON, S.D. (UJ) — The University of Jamestown men’s soccer team lost its second straight match Wednesday, falling 2-1 against Mount Marty University.
The Jimmies, now 5-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the GPAC, finish the road portion of their schedule Saturday with a non-conference match at No. 10 Bellevue (Neb.) University.
David Provencher took a pass from Jose Garcia in the third minute and put the ball in the back of the net, giving the Lancers the early 1-0 lead. Garcia made it 2-0 in the 34th minute with an assist by Jason Chavez, and the score remained 2-0 going into halftime.
Alex Aco-Hernadez, Frankie Parkinson (FR/Bournemouth, England), and Aaron Pike (SR/Milton Keynes, England) all had shots on goal in the first ten minutes of the second half but were denied by Lancer keeper Jose Quinonez.
Joel Hyland (FR/Manchester, England) got the Jimmies on the board with an 86th-minute goal, then had another attempt on goal saved by Quinonez in the 89th minute. Eric Fairtlough (SR/Varese, Italy) had the last chance for an equalizer, but his shot went high over the crossbar.
Shots on goal were 8-7 in favor of Mount Marty. Alex Hamer (SR/Solihull, England) had five saves for Jamestown.
