Jamestown  (CSi)  After a year’s absence, Community Dinner Theater returns to the Jamestown Arts Center.

On Thursday’s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Arts Center Director, Mindi Schmitz said, the production, “Men are Dogs,” is set for two performances, November 12 &13.  Dinner is served at 6-p.m., with the play starting at 7-p.m

Tickets are available at jamestownarts.com. Seating is limited. Reservation or pre-ticket purchase is required.  Call the office at 701-251-2496 to make your reservation.  Tickets are $30 each for Arts Center members and $35 for non-members.

About the play:  Despite the title, this play is actually a hilarious comedy! Dr. Cecelia Monahan has a serious problem. As a therapist who runs a support group for single and divorced women, she must listen to a number of relationship problems from her unusual cadre of patients as well as dealing with the unsolicited advice of her live in mother on subjects ranging from dating to cooking recipes. The doctor, however, is not above using some unorthodox methods of her own such as hiring out of work actors to role play with her patients. It is only when Cecelia meets the new substitute package delivery man that the doctor must learn to practice what she preaches!

Also on our show, Mindi pointed out that, Watercolor or Mixed Media Hack with Linda Roesch will be on Saturday October 30, from 1-p.m., to 3-p.m., at the Arts Center.

Painting with watercolors can be quite challenging, even for the seasoned artist. In this class, you’ll experiment with mixed media techniques that can help take the stress of painting with watercolors. See how you can add line work and finer details or sketch quickly on the go using watercolor pencils, watercolor markers, and sharpie.

The Jamestown Arts Center in Downtown Jamestown is open Monday- Friday 9-a.m., to 5-p.m., and Saturdays 10-a.m. to 2-p.m. Call 701-251-2496

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Two men have been arrested after a high speed chase that began in Minnesota and ended with a crash in North Dakota. Sheriff’s officials say a vehicle was traveling at nearly 100 mph in Clay County, Minnesota Wednesday afternoon. According to authorities, the driver stopped and he and a passenger switched seats before the vehicle took off again. Later the passenger got out and the driver sped away. The passenger was arrested and the driver who took off was taken into custody after crashing the vehicle north of West Fargo. He was taken to the hospital and arrested.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Federal authorities say a North Dakota man is charged with second-degree murder in the decapitation killing this month of a man at the victim’s home on the Navajo Nation in northwestern New Mexico. A criminal complaint alleges 28-year-old Shilo Aaron Oldrock attacked and decapitated the victim with an ax on Oct. 10 and burned his head in a wood stove before fleeing. A statement Thursday from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Mexico says Oldrock is from Fargo. Federal officials didn’t release the victim’s full name, giving only his initials. A lawyer representing Oldrock did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In world and national news…

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — The leader of the 400 Mawozo gang that police say kidnapped 17 members of a missionary group is seen in a new video saying he will kill them if he doesn’t get what he’s demanding. The video posted Thursday on social media shows Wilson Joseph dressed in a blue suit, carrying a blue hat and wearing a large cross around his neck. He also threatened Prime Minister Ariel Henry and the chief of Haiti’s National Police, Léon Charles as he spoke in front of the coffins that held several members of his gang who were recently killed.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — Gangs across Haiti’s capital and beyond are wielding power like never before. They control more land and commit more crimes than ever — all without a care. Their tightening grip on society threatens the country’s social fabric and its fragile, anemic economy. Poverty drives much of the violence, but people of all classes are affected by the widespread extortion, killings and kidnappings. Some Haitians blame politicians for helping to create the gangs, which then grew more powerful than the government. Police can do little to help. Haiti has roughly 9,000 officers on the streets, a fraction of the number that would normally patrol a country of more than 11 million people.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is tying his legislative priorities on voting rights, police reform and climate change to Martin Luther King Jr.’s push for racial justice. Biden spoke Thursday while marking the 10th anniversary of the opening of the civil rights leader’s memorial on the National Mall. With his political base anxious over a lack of progress on the bills in Congress, Biden sought to reassure supporters that he wouldn’t let up the fight. He said: “I know that progress does not come fast enough. It never has.” But he reiterated that protecting the right to vote was “central” to his administration. He added: “This is far from over.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration is laying out the heightened security threats, rising tensions and increased refugee flows facing the U.S. as the climate warms. One of the federal climate assessments Thursday calls on the U.S. to do much more to track and protect refugees fleeing natural disasters. President Joe Biden ordered federal agencies to assess the challenges facing the U.S. as the climate warms. The migration part of the study warns that climate change is displacing tens of millions of people around the global each year. It says the policies the U.S. adapts today will help determine how big and how manageable the flows of climate migrants are.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) — The 2-month-old California wildfire that threatened the Lake Tahoe resort region over the summer has been declared 100% contained. Officials say the fire reached the milestone late Wednesday. Storms this week covered the fire’s western side in snow and rain fell on the blaze’s eastern side. Stronger storms are expected throughout this week. Authorities say there will be smoldering within the fire zone long into the winter. The 346-square-mile fire was reported Aug. 14 and destroyed 1,000 structures including nearly 800 homes as it headed toward the tourist destination of South Lake Tahoe, which was spared. Many of the homes burned were in the forest community of Grizzly Flat.
