Jamestown (CVHD) In anticipation of the approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for pediatrics, Central Valley Health District (CVHD) is planning to host a COVID vaccination clinic for children 5- to 11-year-old. The vaccination clinic will be held on Thursday, November 11 in the main entrance of the Jamestown Civic Center from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
The vaccine’s safety was studied in approximately 3,100 children ages 5 through 11 who received the vaccine and no serious side effects have been detected in the ongoing study.
The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for children 5 through 11 years of age is administered as a two-dose primary series, 3 weeks apart, but is a lower dose (10 micrograms) than that used for individuals 12 years of age and older (30 micrograms).
CVHD Unit Administrator, Robin Iszler says, “Adult COVID vaccine and child COVID vaccine are not interchangeable.” The pediatric vaccine will be manufactured and packaged specifically for pediatrics.
To ensure safety and comfort of the children of our community, CVHD is hosting a special clinic for those who meet the qualifications for the child vaccine. CVHD is anticipating receiving approximately 200 pediatric Pfizer doses of COVID vaccine next week. Doses will be limited, and attendees must pre-register in order to receive the vaccine. To register for an appointment, visit the www.centralvalleyhealth.org/covid-vaccine/.
Due to limited space, please limit attendance of the event to the child receiving the vaccination and one parent or guardian.
Again, the vaccination clinic will be held in the main entrance of the Civic Center, while COVID testing will be occurring simultaneously in the Exchequer Room of the Civic Center that day.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The Cass County sheriff has fired a deputy who was arrested for driving drunk and crashing his vehicle with his children inside. In a termination letter, Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner says Deputy Jacob Danielson violated several of his office’s policies, including those which deal with standards of conduct and performance. Danielson pleaded guilty in court on Oct. 15 to a misdemeanor DUI charge and received 360 days of probation. The charge stems from an August arrest by police when Danielson was in a crash at Custom Express Car Wash in Fargo.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — State corrections officials say coronavirus cases involving inmates at the North Dakota State Penitentiary have soared to the highest number to date in the pandemic. North Dakota Department of Corrections officials say out of more than 525 inmates, active positives among inmates jumped from 17 last week to 63 this week. And active positives for staff jumped from 14 last week to 19 Monday. Corrections spokeswoman Kayli Richards says “COVID spread in a congregated setting is extremely difficult to avoid.” The facility has exceeded its isolation space and is using the gym as an infirmary for COVID positive inmates.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Tuesday is the birthday for both Dakotas. President Benjamin Harrison signed papers admitting North Dakota and South Dakota as the 39th and 40th states in the union on Nov. 2, 1889. Legend says Harrison shuffled the statehood papers before signing them. The two states are now 132 years old. They initially were part of the Dakota Territory created in 1861, which also included much of the present-day states of Montana and Wyoming.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Many of the more than two dozen bill drafts submitted by North Dakota lawmakers for consideration in their upcoming special session attempt to restrict vaccination requirements and the teaching of critical race theory in public schools. The Legislature is set to meet in Bismarck starting Nov. 8 for a special session with specific emphasis on redrawing legislative districts and allocating federal coronavirus relief funds. But 26 mostly unrelated bill drafts filed by lawmakers can still become law if they make it through a Republican-controlled vetting process at the beginning of the session and subsequent floor votes.

EKNOSHA, Wis. (AP) — A prosecutor says Kyle Rittenhouse instigated the confrontation that led him to shoot three people on the streets of Kenosha, Wisconsin, during a turbulent protest against racial injustice. But Rittenhouse’s attorney says his client acted in self-defense after one of the men dove for his gun and others kicked him in the face and clubbed him in the head with a skateboard. The two accounts came during opening statements Tuesday at Rittenhouse’s murder trial. Rittenhouse, now 18, is charged with killing two men and wounding a third with an assault-style rifle during the summer of 2020. He could get life in prison if convicted.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The judge who presided over the trial of Derek Chauvin has made public the names of jurors who convicted the former Minneapolis police officer of murder in the death of George Floyd. Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill also Monday released the names of alternates who watched the trial but did not deliberate, as well as questionnaires they filled out during jury selection. The release followed a request by The Associated Press and other news organizations to make the names public. Some jurors have spoken out since their verdict in April. Attempts by the AP to reach other jurors have been unsuccessful.
(AP) Voters in several states are considering whether to expand constitutional rights for people to grow food, gather for worship and visit loved ones in nursing homes. Some measures are a backlash to restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic, such as the Texas amendments guaranteeing nursing home visits and religious services. Others would reaffirm pandemic policies, such as a New York measure doing away with limits on absentee voting. A Maine amendment would create a first-of-its kind right to raise and eat food. A New York measure would create a right to clean air and water, similar to measures enacted in several states in the 1970s.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police in Las Vegas say Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III will face a felony driving under the influence charge after a fiery vehicle crash early Tuesday that left a woman dead and Ruggs and his female passenger injured. According to police, Ruggs was driving a Chevrolet Corvette that crashed a little before 3:40 a.m. into the rear of a Toyota Rav4 on a busy thoroughfare several miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. Police say the Toyota caught fire and the driver died. The 22-year-old Ruggs “showed signs of impairment,” police said in a statement that said he will be charged with felony DUI resulting in death. Ruggs and his female passenger were hospitalized with unspecified injuries.
