Jimmies D-I Men’s Hockey Over Waldorf, Fri.

(UJ)  The tenth-ranked University of Jamestown hockey team bounced back from a one-goal defeat earlier in the week against No. 1 Minot State University, defeating Waldorf University 2-1 Friday night at Wilson Arena.

Despite outshooting the Warriors 33-15 over the first 40 minutes, the Jimmies found themselves tied 1-1.

Waldorf took a 1-0 lead with 34 seconds left in the first period on a Ryan Stokes goal. Jamestown got the equalizer as Reid Wilson (SO/Castlegar, British Columbia) found Jason Richter (SR/Cranbrook, British Columbia) at 12:13 of the second period to make it 1-1.

Just over five minutes into the third, Quin Garrison (JR/Prince George, British Columbia) made it 2-1 Jimmies with assists by Nathan Cohen-Wallis (SO/Canmore, Alberta) and Brenden Vulcano (FR/Nelson, British Columbia). Waldorf had a chance to tie inside of the last five minutes, but Tyson Brouwer (SR/Lethbridge, Alberta) stopped Jeremiah Lebsack on a breakaway attempt to keep the score 2-1.

The Jimmies did an impressive job of keeping the puck in the offensive zone in the final minute and did not allow the Warriors to pull their goaltender for an extra attacker.

Shots ended 50-23 in favor of UJ. Brouwer made 22 stops for the Jimmies.

The two teams finish their weekend series Saturday at 7 p.m.
