Barbara Rose Oster was born October 24, 1942 in Harvey, ND to Bill and Katie (Deck) Oster.  Barb grew up in Harvey and graduated from Harvey High School.  After graduation, she moved to Valley City, ND and worked at Mercy Hospital.

April 8, 1961, she married Richard “Dick” Borg in Harvey.  They made their home near Valley City where they raised their four children.  When the kids had all gone to school, Barb went back to work.  She worked for several years at the Sheyenne Care Center and then Washington Elementary School.

Barb was involved with St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and was active in the ladies’ circle there.  She also volunteered at the Nearly Nu store.  She enjoyed playing cards and having coffee with her friends.  Her hobbies included fishing, camping, gardening, and crocheting.  She and Dick liked to travel and enjoyed their trip to Alaska.  Barb also kept busy crocheting and kept everyone in slippers, hangers, wash cloths and potholders. Later in life Barb became a lover of dogs and much to her surprise even started allowing them in her house.  Above all else, Barb’s family was most important.  She enjoyed being able to attend any activity her grandchildren were involved in and loved nothing more than having a houseful of family.

She leaves behind her husband, Dick; daughters, Deborah Borg and Tracy (Scott) Eckman; sons, Paul (Beth) and David (JoAnne); grandchildren, Jessica (Matthew), Katie (Adam), Tyler, Bryce, and Parker; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Quentin, Kaitlyn, Jasper, Oliver, a brother, Paul (Linda) Oster; and sisters, Tillie Hanks, Rosie (Royce) Ponzer, and Christine (Bob) Schmaltz; along with many nieces and nephews.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary Moran and Betty Oster; and an infant brother.

Lerud Mathias Funeral Home is assisting Barb’s family with arrangements.
