The West Fargo Police Department said students at Liberty Middle School tipped a security officer to the threat made on Snapchat Thursday. Police made the arrest roughly an hour after the threat was reported. Police say the young person did not intend to carry out any of the violent acts. But they arrested the individual because the threat caused fear and safety concerns.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A police sergeant at the scene when Daunte Wright was shot says he was holding Wright’s right arm with both hands in the moments before he was shot. Mychal Johnson, who was a patrol sergeant in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center at the time of Wright’s killing, took the stand Friday as prosecutors resumed their case in the manslaughter trial of former police officer Kim Potter, who says she mistakenly fired her gun instead of her Taser. Video also shows Johnson trying to comfort Potter after she shot the 20-year-old Wright, telling her Wright was going to drive away with Johnson in the car. Potter is charged with manslaughter for killing Wright during the April traffic stop.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection is subpoenaing six more people who the panel says were involved in the organization and planning of rallies that aimed to overturn Donald Trump’s defeat in the 2020 presidential election. The committee chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson, says some worked to stage the rallies and “some appeared to have had direct communication” with then-President Trump as they were planning. The rallies before and during the Jan. 6 riot are a major focus of the committee’s investigation. Committee members want to know who financed the events and whether organizers were in close touch with the White House and members of Congress as they planned the events.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — Attorneys in the upcoming federal hate crimes trial of the white men who chased and killed Ahmaud Arbery want the jury pool to come from an expansive area of Georgia. A joint legal filing by prosecutors and defense attorneys asks a federal judge to seek the jury from the 43 counties that make up the federal court system’s Southern District of Georgia. Jury selection is scheduled to begin Feb. 7 in U.S. District Court. (AP)  More U.S. states desperate to defend against COVID-19 are calling on the National Guard and other military personnel to assist. Staff at hospitals and other care centers are being worn down by a rise in virus cases that began before Thanksgiving, especially in some Northeast and Upper Midwest states. Meanwhile, New York state announced a statewide indoor mask order, effective Monday and lasting five weeks through the holiday season. Gov. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michael Nesmith, the wool-hatted, guitar-strumming member of the 1960s, made-for-television rock band The Monkees, has died at 78. His family says Nesmith died Friday of natural causes. Nesmith was a struggling singer-songwriter in 1966 when he saw a trade-publication ad seeking “four insane boys” for a zany TV show about a rock band modeled after the Beatles. He quickly became Mike, the show’s serious but often naive lead guitarist. After the show ended, Nesmith went on to several successful careers. He recorded more than a dozen non-Monkees albums, wrote several books and dozens of songs. He also founded two entertainment companies.
