Valley City  (VCPS 12-17-21) –  Valley City Public School District Superintendent Josh Johnson, has issued a statement, regarding the recent “TikTok,Challenge.”

“Considering the most recent school threats reaching across the country, Valley City Public Schools has been and will continue to work collaboratively with local law enforcement and our School Resource Officer (SRO) Sean Hagen to ensure the safety of our students in our schools.

The latest TikTok challenge has asked for individuals to bring weapons to school on this day. Valley City Police Department will be increasing their presence in our schools today as precautionary measures.

As you know, student safety is a priority in our school district, and we will take all threats seriously. We will continue to encourage everyone in our community to report concerns or unusual behaviors to school officials or law enforcement immediately.”

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at josh.johnson@k12.nd.us (701.845.0483) or sean.hagen@k12.nd.us (701.840.9761).

Jamestown Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Robert Lech says, the Jamestown Public School District has made local law enforcement aware through its school resource officer of a TikTok challenge that calls for violence in schools across the U.S. on Friday.

The TikTok challenge is nationwide, and was not directed toward any specific state or city

He stated, “We did make the request from them through the SRO (school resource officer) to have additional support and presence on our school campuses.”.

He said there is a balance between providing awareness of the challenge versus creating fear in Jamestown Public Schools staff members, students and families.

He added that, “Ultimately, we’ve had no evidence of really credible or otherwise that would give us any pause or elicit any concerns. Of course we still internally treat those threats even when they are not viable very serious.”

Valley City  (From Casey Stoudt Jr., Valley City)–  Since 1898 when the automotive industry began it has thrived by embracing innovation, evolution and the excitement of the vehicle. This combined with the local auto dealers dedication and firm commitment to customer service has built the foundation of these two great companies.

Miller Motors and Stoudt-Ross Ford are excited to announce the next evolution of the auto industry in combining forces and continuing to build and grow as Stoudt-Miller, Inc.

Jim Nelson and Casey Stoudt Jr. are pleased to announce that over 500 years of combined award winning experience in sales, parts and service will be offered in one beautiful location with a new state of the art showroom for Miller Motors. The merger will offer Valley City, and the surrounding area, the biggest shop with 5 quick lane service stalls and up to 20 repair stalls within one facility.

Miller Motors will be moving into Stoudt-Ross Ford on Winter Show Road in Valley City on January 3rd. Jim Nelson will be the dealer principal on the Chrysler side.  Casey Stoudt will be the dealer principal on the Ford side.

The combined dealership will bring their existing staff at both locations to one. Nelson said there will be no job cuts and additional hires are planned. Construction of the new addition is tentatively set for the spring of 2022.

When Jim and Casey were asked, why now, the answer came quite easily. With all of the new product coming from both Ford and Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM they decided they owed it to Valley City and Barnes County. Both Jim and Casey agreed their customers, all over the region, were the most important piece of the puzzle and continuing to provide them with the best and most comfortable experience they deserve was top on the list. They want their customers, new and returning, to know that the same faces they’ve grown to know and trust have merged together to offer more products, faster efficiency and even better service.

Nelson and Stoudt thank everyone for their support and patronage over the years and look forward to continuing that relationship in 2022. They also invite the public to stop in and see them in the new location and check out the new and used inventory that is arriving daily.

This is just the beginning for Stoudt-Miller, Inc. with January 3rd set as the official first day of business at 325 Winter Show Road SW in Valley City. Watch for updates and the ground breaking of the new building set in the spring of 2022.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says he will not seek reelection in 2022. The Republican is the longest-serving attorney general in state history. Stenehjem, who is 68 years old, said he plans to retire from the post, the Bismarck Tribune reported. He first took office in 2001 and has held the office for six terms. His career in North Dakota politics has spanned over four decades, starting with his election to the House in 1976. He ran for governor in 2016, but lost in the GOP primary to Doug Burgum, who went on to become governor.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is urging the U.S. Supreme Court to reject an appeal by developers of the Dakota Access oil pipeline who are seeking to reinstate a federal permit for the line’s Missouri River crossing. Early this year, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit affirmed part of a lower court order that revoked the permit and required a new environmental review of the pipeline. Standing Rock and other Sioux tribes argue that the high court should decline the developer’s petition to hear the case because appeals courts are not split on the issues surrounding the dispute, which can lead to the Supreme Court taking the case.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The defense has rested in the trial of the suburban Minneapolis police officer charged in the fatal shooting of Black motorist Daunte Wright. Kim Potter is charged with manslaughter in Wright’s death during an April 11 traffic stop in Brooklyn Center. Potter has said she meant to use her Taser to subdue Wright when he pulled away from officers and got back into his car as they tried to arrest him on a warrant for a weapons violation. She shot him once with her handgun instead. The defense wrapped up its case soon after Potter took the stand Friday to testify about that day. Potter said the situation “just went chaotic” after Wright tried to get back into his car.

In world and national news…

NEW YORK (AP) — Ghislaine Maxwell’s defense called another of Jeffrey Epstein’s one-time paramours to the stand. Former Miss Sweden, New York City doctor and tabloid fixture Eva Andersson-Dubin told the jury Friday that she trusted the financier with her young daughters and denied taking part in a group sexual encounter with a key accuser. The 60-year-old testified that she dated Epstein “off and on” from 1983 to the early 1990s, before he dated Maxwell. Maxwell has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking charges stemming from her interactions with four teenage girls from 1994 to 2004.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Capitol rioter who attacked police officers working to hold back the angry mob on Jan. 6 has been sentenced to more than five years behind bars, the most so far for anyone sentenced in the insurrection. Robert Palmer, 54, of Largo, Florida, wept as he told a U.S. district judge in Washington that he recently watched a video of his actions that day and was horrified. Palmer was one of several rioters sentenced on Friday. A college student who posted online that “Infamy is just as good as fame” after she climbed through a broken window at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 was sentenced to a month in jail. Scores of police were bloodied and five people died.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Longtime Trump confidant Roger Stone says he has asserted his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination in an interview with the House panel investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection. He told reporters as he left the deposition Friday that “I did my civic duty and I responded as required by law” but that he invoked his Fifth Amendment rights to every question. The committee subpoenaed Stone last month, noting that he spoke at rallies on the day before the insurrection and used members of a far-right extremist group as personal security guards. Stone was convicted in 2019 of lying to Congress, but subsequently pardoned by Trump.

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — Police in Virginia say the discovery of four bodies at two different locations in the state are the work of a serial killer who used a shopping cart to transport his victims’ bodies after meeting them on dating sites. Fairfax County police on Friday dubbed 35-year-old Anthony Robinson of Washington, D.C., as the “shopping cart killer.” He said police are working to determine if there are other victims. Police in Harrisonburg arrested Robinson last month and charged him with murder after finding after finding two bodies there. He remains in custody in Rockingham County. Evidence uncovered after his arrest led to the discovery of two more bodies in Fairfax County.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Some parents kept their children home, police stepped up patrols and educators tightened security protocols Friday in response to viral TikTok posts alluding to unconfirmed threats of violence that raised anxiety levels at schools nationwide. With stress levels already soaring from the effects of the pandemic and a rash of hoax threats following a deadly school shooting in Michigan on Nov. 30, districts said they were taking precautions out of an abundance of caution. TikTok has said it is working with law enforcement to look into the warnings. In Twitter posts on Friday, the company said it had not found content promoting violence at schools but found videos discussing the rumor and warning others to stay safe.

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. health officials are endorsing “test-to-stay” policies that allow close contacts of students infected with the coronavirus to remain in classrooms if they test negative. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday decided to more firmly embrace the approach, after research of such policies in the Chicago and Los Angeles areas found COVID-19 infections did not increase when schools switched to test-to-stay. CDC had recommended that when someone in a school tests positive for COVID-19, those who were deemed to be in close contact with them should stay out of school for 10 days.

(AP) Pfizer is testing an extra dose of its COVID-19 vaccine for babies and  preschoolers after preliminary research hinted the usual two doses wouldn’t be enough. Pfizer had been testing very low-dose shots in children under age 5, with some data expected by year’s end. But Pfizer and its partner BioNTech announced Friday the change to its ongoing study after a preliminary analysis found 2- to 4-year-olds didn’t have as strong an immune response as expected — although babies and toddlers reacted well. It’s not clear how much the setback will delay the quest for vaccinating the youngest children.
