Valley City (NDHP) Authorities are investigating a two vehicle crash about 10-a.m., Thursday, on I-94 near Mile Marker, 295 east of Valley City eastbound .
The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports that a 2022 Freightliner towing a reefer trailer was operated by 59 year old Andre Lapchin, of Laval, Quebec –he was not injured, neither was his passenger 64 yr old Victor Kuzmitsky, also of Laval, Quebec.
A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 59 year old Michael Steinke of Hope, ND, was towing a 20 ft flatbed trailer.
Steinke was eastbound on I-94 with a load of lumber in the bed of the truck and on the flatbed trailer. He was traveling in the right lane of eastbound I-94 when he was rear-ended by Lapchin.
After the collision, the Freightliner came to rest disabled across both lanes of eastbound I-94. The Chevrolet jack knifed and came to rest on the eastbound shoulder. The load of lumber was spilled into the south ditch and onto the shoulder during the collision.
Traffic was impacted with alternating lane closures for approximate 2 ¼ hours while the scene was cleared.
There were no injuries in the crash. Lapchin was cited for Care Required.
The NDHP was assisted with traffic control by the Barnes County SO, Valley City PD and NDDOT during the entire clean-up effort.
