Wednesday-Women’s Basketball (UJ) — Kia Tower (JR/Bigfork, MN) scored 21 points and was one of three players in double figures as the University of Jamestown women’s basketball team won its seventh straight game Wednesday night, defeating Valley City State (N.D.) 79-59.
Hannah DeMars (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) had 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists while Noelle Josephson (SR/Ramsey, MN) added 13 points and five rebounds.
The Jimmies were up 19-13 after one quarter, but the Vikings trimmed the lead to 23-22 just under three minutes into the second. DeMars knocked down two three-pointers and Josephson another as Jamestown opened up a ten-point advantage with 5:34 left in the half.
Breanna Price ended a scoreless drought of 3:45 for VCSU with a basket to make it 32-24, but the Jimmies scored the next 11 points to open up a 19-point lead with 59 seconds before the half.
UJ kept the lead between 15 and 21 in the third quarter, and led by as many as 23 after Tower made a pair of free throws with 4:09 to play.
Sarah Lenz (FR/Belle Plaine, MN) (9), Jailyn Martinson (FR/Devils Lake, ND) (8), and Lexiss Trygg (FR/Virginia, MN) (8) combined for 25 of the Jimmies’ 29 bench points. Martinson added six rebounds and four assists, while Trygg also grabbed six rebounds.
Taryn Dieterle and Katie Johnson each had 10 to lead the Vikings.
Jamestown improves to 11-4 overall and returns to GPAC play on Saturday, hosting No. 10 Morningside (Iowa) at 2 p.m.
