SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (UJ) — The University of Jamestown women’s basketball team lost its third straight game Saturday afternoon, falling 84-70 to Dordt University.
The Jimmies, now 11-7 on the year, fall to 4-6 in the GPAC and will host No. 23 Briar Cliff (Iowa) University on Wednesday.
A 7-0 run in the first quarter turned a 6-6 tie into a 13-6 lead for the Defenders, and the home team never looked back. Dordt led 19-12 after the first quarter as the Jimmies shot just 33 percent in the opening ten minutes.
Dordt would lead by as many as 13 in the second quarter before settling on a 12-point lead at the break. Jamestown shot 47 percent in the quarter, but a 60 percent shooting performance by the home team, including 80 percent from three-point range, did not allow the Jimmies to cut the deficit.
UJ continued to trail by double digits throughout the third quarter, but made it a seven-point game after a Hannah DeMars (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) three-pointer with 5:24 to play. Jamestown then made it a five-point contest on a Kia Tower (JR/Bigfork, MN) three with 2:29 remaining.
Another 7-0 run by Dordt helped seal the deal as the Jimmies fell behind by a dozen and did not score again until Tower made a jumper with 47 seconds left. The Defenders made all six of their free throw attempts to close out the game with Jamestown forced to foul.
DeMars led the Jimmies with 18 points, followed by a double of 17 points and 10 rebounds from Noelle Josephson (SR/Ramsey, MN). Tower was also in double figures with 14.
