Safe Shelter was founded in 1980 in an effort to help end domestic violence and sexual assault. Tally joined in September of 1981, eventually transitioning into the executive director role. She has been responsible for staff leadership, fund development including grant writing/reporting, fiscal and budget management, organizational policy development, program development and coordination, collaboration with diverse agencies and organizations, facility management, and some direct services for survivors.
“I have loved doing this work for nearly 41 years,” Tally stated. “There has never been a day when I wished I could work somewhere else. Leaving is bittersweet for me, but it’s time for new leadership and new energy and I’m excited to see what the future holds for Safe Shelter and Mary’s Place.”
A transition committee has been formed and the search process is underway to find the organization’s next Executive Director. Interested applicants can email toniweg@daktel.com for an application packet.
Deadline for submission is April 6, 2022.
About Safe Shelter:
Safe Shelter is committed to empowering victims of physical, emotional, and sexual violence by offering information which will allow them to choose their own courses of action and by supporting them as they act on those choices.
Safe Shelter provides crisis intervention and advocacy services for adult survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. We operate a shelter for survivors that houses three apartments where they and their children can stay for up to four months while they heal and plan for the future. We also conduct various education and prevention activities throughout the year in an effort to prevent interpersonal violence in future generations.
