Janet Marie Peterson, née Weston, passed away at the age of 61 on Wednesday, May 18, 2022.

Janet was born to Donald and Eleanor (Buck) Weston on December 29, 1960, in Detroit Lakes, MN. Janet was the baby, the last of 8 children. Family was incredibly important to her. She loved to visit, talk on the phone for hours, and pen letters to stay in touch. She loved her two daughters with all of her soul and would tell anyone who would listen how proud she was of them.

Janet was always on the move; she lived in California, Colorado, and New York (to name a few). She eventually settled in North Dakota and spent most of that time living in Valley City, where she worked at the Sheyenne Care Center nursing home. Janet was most happy when caring for others: her children, her grandchildren, her friends, and her residents at the nursing home. She loved fiercely and cared deeply.

Janet lived an extraordinary and adventure-filled life. She shared her celebrations and struggles openly, leaving an impact on everyone who knew her. There was rarely a dull moment; she colored the world.

Janet is survived by two daughters, Sholauna (Chad) Brewer and Shylan Peterson; five grandchildren, Derek, John, Lex, Sienna, and Jace; two brothers, Robert (Debra) Weston and Terry Weston; two sisters, Sandra Pruitt and Faye (Roy) Ailshire, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Preceding Janet in death were her parents; her siblings, Donald Weston, James Weston, and Karen McAdam; and her nieces, Becky Weston, Rachel Weston, and Briana Leal Meraz.

The family has respectfully chosen to hold private services to celebrate Janet’s life.
