LA GRANDE, Ore. (UJ) — The University of Jamestown women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Northwest (Wash.) University Sunday afternoon in a neutral site game hosted by Eastern Oregon University.
Jamestown wasted little time in finding the game’s first goal, as Cassandra Diaz (SR/Montebello, Calif.) netted her first of the season just 3:03 into the action. Kamryn Fiscus (SR/Yakima, Wash.) earned the assist, which was her first of the year.
UJ’s defense did not allow a shot in the first half, while the offense mounted eight total shots, four of them on target.
The Eagles finally got a shot in the 50th minute that went high over the crossbar, then added three more shots in the next eight minutes. Gracie Vanassche’s shot hit the back of the net in the 58th minute to even the score.
Jamestown would not concede another shot for the remainder of the match, and had a chance in the 88th minute to take the lead, but Aubree Gessel (SR/Temecula, Calif.)’s attempt hit the crossbar. One more attempt for the Jimmies came from Fiscus, however Northwest keeper Hanne Breur made the save.
Overall shots were 14-4 in favor of UJ. Fouls were even at 12 each, and both teams drew a yellow card.
The Jimmies (1-2-1) return to action Monday against Eastern Oregon at 1 p.m.
