At Hansen Stadium
Northwestern Iowa College 48 Jamestown 3
Jamestown (UJ) The fourth-ranked Northwestern (Iowa) College Red Raiders jumped out to a 27-3 halftime lead on the way to a 48-3 win over the University of Jamestown football team Saturday afternoon at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.
The loss was the first at home for the Jimmies, who are now 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the GPAC.
UJ’s defense came up with a big stop as Rashawn Benners (JR/Dayton, Ohio) broke up a pass on 4th-and-3 from the Jimmies’ 18 yard line, ending a 12-play, 57-yard drive.
After the Jimmies went three-and-out on their first possession, the Red Raiders found the end zone on their next four drives of the first half.
Jamestown’s longest drive of the half was capped off by a 25-yard field goal by Aanon Peterson (FR/Andover, Minn.). UJ covered 68 yards in 11 plays, with 28 yards coming on a pair of Javon Bowie-Monteiro (SR/Sacramento, Calif.) receptions and a 23-yard run by Zach Hammett (FR/Mohave Valley, Ariz.). Hammett also caught a 13-yard pass out of the backfield on the drive.
In the third quarter, Northwestern returned an interception 33 yards for a score and added another touchdown drive of 75 yards to make it 41-3. The final scoring drive for the Red Raiders went 84 yards and extended the lead to 48-3 with 14:06 in the game.
The Jimmies took over following a fourth-down stop at their own 16 yard line with 9:23 to play, and picked up big chunks of yardage thanks to an 11-yard run by Micah Madyun (JR/Ramsey, Minn.) and a 35-yard pass from Cade Torgerson (SR/Billings, Mont.) to Isaiah Roebuck (SO/Marana, Ariz.). However, a sack and a fumble took UJ out of favorable field position, and Northwestern held on to the ball for 6:40 of the game’s final 6:44.
Torgerson completed 15-of-24 passes for 101 yards and was intercepted once. Hammett carried seven times for 45 yards, and the trio of Bowie-Monteiro, Madyun, and Carlos Julian (JR/North Las Vegas, Nev.) each caught three passes.
Benners led the defense with seven tackles. Ezra Belingheri (SO/Sparks, Nev.) and Paul Vandal (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) both recorded a sack.
The Jimmies are back in action next Saturday at Midland (Neb.) University for a 1 p.m. start
Next Saturday, UJ Football heads to Midland with a 1-PM kickoff.
