Oakes, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Aug 22, 2013) — The Fargo man who fled from the scene of a two-vehicle accident and into a corn field in Northern Dickey County on Wednesday morning was found and taken into custody in Oakes, on Thursday morning.

He was picked up at the Travel Inn Motel in Oakes, after receiving a tip that he had registered their under an alias.

Ekstom was arrested without incident shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday.

He was taken by ambulance to the Oakes Community Hospital for treatment of injuries.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says he will be charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident, and additional charges are likely.

On Wednesday the North Dakota Highway Patrol reported, a crash about six miles north of Oakes,  Wednesday totaled two cars and resulted in authorities searching for a man in a cornfield.

The  Highway Patrol said 26 year old Kyle Severance,  of Dickey, was driving a 2000 Ford F250 northbound on North Dakota Highway 1 at about 11:18 a.m. when a 2003 Ford F250 failed to yield at the stop intersection on 81st Street Southeast.

The second pickup, driven by 37 year old Gabriel Ekstrom,  of Fargo, struck the passenger side of Severance’s pickup, as both vehicles  entered the east ditch of Highway 1 and came to rest upright.

Severance and the two passengers in Ekstrom’s car, 33 yearold Nathaniel Nash,  of Fargo, and 24 year old Jose Montero,  of West Fargo,  received  non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Oakes Hospital.

Both cars were totaled.

Ekstrom fled on foot from the crash scene into a 300 plus acre cornfield. An extensive search was conducted to locate Ekstrom, including a K-9 Unit, but he was not found.

About an hour after the initial search ended, Ekstrom was spotted more than one mile from the crash scene fleeing into another cornfield.   Another search was conducted, and Ekstrom was not located.

Dickey County Sheriff’s Office, Oakes Police Department, Sargent County Sheriff’s Office, Oakes Fire Department and Ransom County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene.

OAKES, N.D. (AP Aug 21, 2013) – North Dakota authorities are looking for a driver who ran away from a crash north of Oakes and might be hiding in a corn field.

The driver of  a  company  truck from Hickson, North Dakota  fled the scene of an accident  by running into a corn field in northern Dickey County late Wednesday morning.  It’s unclear if he’s injured.

The truck collided with another vehicle at the intersection of North Dakota Highway 1 and Dickey County Road 1 around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The accident injured three people, the driver of the other vehicle, and two passengers in the truck who were  taken to the Oakes Community Hospital.  Their conditions haven’t been released.

The  North Dakota Highway Patrol brought in K-9 units to search for the man, before calling off the search a few hours after the crash.  The man is a non-violent offender.

Anyone with information regarding the man is asked to call local law enforcement.
