FREMONT, Neb. (UJ) — The University of Jamestown women’s hockey team faced a formidable challenge in its first-ever regular season game Saturday afternoon at Sidner Arena.

The Jimmies’ opponent was the Midland University Warriors, who finished second in the ACHA Division 1 final rankings in 2021-22, and the Warriors lived up to that billing as they took a 10-1 victory in the season opener for both teams.

Despite the loss, a number of firsts were achieved by UJ, including the first goal, scored by Crystal Wale (JR/Moose Jaw, SK), which also happened to be the first power play goal. Samantha Muller (FR/Saskatoon, SK) earned the first-ever assist, and Bethany Wielgosh (FR/Beausejour, MB) drew the first-ever penalty. Lilah Drew (FR/Bolton, ON) recorded the first-ever save by a Jimmie goaltender and joined Muller, Wale, Wielgosh, Samantha Beaulac, and Annika Braun (FR/Altona, MB) as the first-ever Jimmie starters. 

With the first game under their belts, Jamestown will return to action Sunday and close out the weekend series at Midland. Puck drop is set for 12 p.m.
