Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Council Monday Evening approved going forward with being the sponsoring entity for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding for a potential housing project.

In September, Stride Development PBC expressed their interest in meeting the housing needs recently identified in the South Central Dakota Regional Council study.

CEO Tyrone Grandstrand said they were currently viewing different sites to complete the housing project.

He added the CDBG dollars would be used to maintain the same look as other buildings in the downtown area of Jamestown.

The city unanimously approved to sponsor the CDBG funding on behalf of Stride Development PBC.

Another project presented by Beyond Shelter, Inc. is also looking to tap into CDBG funding, with

the first part of their plan involves the Legacy Center.

They would take over ownership of the condo and support the other 20 units of affordable senior living with rental assistance.

Then, they would utilize the CDBG funding to acquire one or two sites to develop a senior living project.

They would relocate current tenants to the new, senior housing facility. This would also open up some of the current restrictions at the Legacy Center.

The council also unanimously approved supporting the CDBG funding request for Beyond Shelter Inc.

The City Council also approved entering into a Memorandum of Understanding for an ornithological habitat in Jamestown.

City Forester Erik Laber said the project was proposed after they were notified that many invasive plants have been seen around the community. The National Audubon Society would preserve and enhance the habitat for birds and other wildlife within certain “riparian zones” along the James River.

Laber says he doesn’t have an estimate as to when the work would begin,

The city unanimously moved to approve the MOU with a 15-year maintenance period.

The Meeting was shown live on CSi Cable 67, followed by replays.
