Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Finance & Legal Committee has recommended hiring a public works director,

Deputy City Auditor Jay Sveum said after discussions with Mayor Dwaine Heinrich and City Administrator Sarah Hellekson, a job position was created for the public works director role.

The committee unanimously approved the job description, and discussed hiring on Tyler Michel for the position, who was unanimously recommended to be approved as the next city public works director.

Concerns on the future site of a proposed Dollar General in Jamestown were expressed at the Building, Planning, and Zoning Committee meeting Tuesday.

City Council Member Buchanan said he was concerned with the distance from Lincoln Elementary, stemming from potentially increased traffic and how it’ll affect Lincoln Elementary and the Legacy Center.

The First Reading of a zoning change of 424 4th Avenue Northeast from General Multiple Dwelling District to Local Commercial was heard and was recommended for approved on a 4-1 vote with Council Member Buchanan voting in opposition.

Mayor Dwaine Heinrich added that because this is a First Reading, there will be two months to allow for more input on the proposed zone change.

The Jamestown Finance & Legal Committee has recommended an agreement between the city and Jamestown Community Corrections Program for 2023-24.

The committee unanimously recommended the approval of the contract with no changes from the previous year.
