Valley City (CSi) The City of Valley City has passed three resolutions, for residential and commercial utility users.

The action at the October 18 meeting will set new rates for the electrical utility, solid waste and water services fees.

Public Works Accountant/Manager Gary Jacobson noted the electrical rate consumption increase. pointing out that Western Area Power Association (WAPA) is raising their rates which will result in a $300,000 increase to the city.

He addressed the solid waste rate increase, by saying that Fargo, where the Valley City solid waste is hauled, has raised Valley City’s rates by five dollars to $51 per ton. That increases in Valley City residential rate from $14 to $15 per ton. Commercial rates will go from $24 to $26 per month. The garbage container monthly rate also increase.

And water service consumption rates increase by 10-percent, but no increase in the base rate.

The City Commission approved all three resolutions unanimously. The rate and fee increases will be implemented January 2nd of 2023.
