ABERDEEN, S.D. – VCSU Taryn Dieterle‘s season-best 19 points and eight rebounds helped the Valley City State women’s basketball team to a 72-60 victory over Presentation College on Saturday to wrap up the Dakota Clash Classic.

The Vikings pulled away in the second quarter, finishing the final 5:51 on an 11-2 run to lead Presentation 33-18 at the break. Coming out of the locker room, VCSU led by as much as 20 points on a Dieterle bucket in the third quarter.

The Saints inched closer in the fourth quarter, closing the gap to just seven points at 66-59 with 28 seconds to go, but VCSU held on with free throws down the stretch to take the victory over the tournament host.

VCSU improves to 5-2 overall while Presentation falls to 0-7 on the season. The Vikings return home on Wednesday, Nov. 23 for a doubleheader against Oak Hills Christian College.

Valley City State shot 41 percent on field goals (25-61), 11 percent on 3-pointers (2-18) and 71 percent from the free throw line (20-28). Presentation shot 42 percent from the field (25-60), 12 percent from 3-point range (2-17) and 67 percent on free throws (8-12).

VCSU held a 35-28 rebounding advantage and recorded 12 steals in the game. VCSU also posted 28 bench points Saturday.

The Vikings had 11 players score in the victory, paced by Dieterle. Ashlyn Diemert chipped in 10 points and totaled four rebounds and four steals off the Viking bench. Hailey Roberts and Meredith Dumas each scored eight points while Allie Critchley and Adriana Torres each pulled down four rebounds for VCSU.

Presentation’s Jessica Harvey led all players with 21 points Saturday. Nek Newell and Kayla Carman each scored 12 and Carman added three steals for the Saints. Emma Ogitchida pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.
