At Monday’s Jamestown City Council Meeting the Council on a 3-2 vote, with all members present, approved changing the zoning of Lot 1, Block 1 of Hope Apostolic Addition from R-3 general multiple dwelling district to a C-1 local commercial district. The property is at 424 4th Avenue Northeast in Jamestown, being considered by Dollar General for building located there.

At The Public hearing, some residents citizens said they are opposed to the zoning change, saying it would cause more traffic and calling it an extension of a commercial zone.

Council Member Dan Buchanan pointed out that no other elementary school is located that close to a commercial zone in the city.

Councilman Brian Kamlitz added that he doesn’t foresee any housing being built at the location, saying that the Dollar General store located there would be a “good spot for the people of the northeast”.

Mayor Heinrich said that there are three homes on that block and two of the three are owned by the individual who applied for the zoning change. He added that the comments he’s heard from citizens were more positive than negative.

Following discussion the Council on a 3-2 vote approved the Second Reading of the Ordinance change on a 3-2 vote, with Council Members Buchanan and Schloegel opposed.

Monday’s meetong was shown live on CSi Cable 67 followed by replays.
