Minot (UJ) — After a 19-day layoff, the 14th-ranked University of Jamestown women’s hockey team was back on the ice Friday afternoon against No. 5 Minot State University. The Beavers took a 3-0 lead early in the second and held on for a 4-2 win.
Olivia Opheim and Riley Bell had goals for the home team in the first period as the Beavers outshot the Jimmies 19-5.
Jordan Kulbida scored 46 seconds into the second period to put MSU ahead 3-0.
Jamestown got on the board with an unassisted goal by Jayden Baker (FR/Regina, SK), then Crystal Wale (JR/Moose Jaw, SK) scored on assists from Rylee Gee (SO/Luverne, Minn.) and Bethany Wielgosh (FR/Beausejour, MB) to make it a one-score game with 17:19 elapsed in the second.
Megan Norris extended Minot State’s lead at 5:02 of the third, but the Jimmies were held to only three shots in the final 20 minutes and were unable to find the back of the net.
Makenzie Gibson (FR/Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) stopped 34 shots in goal for UJ. The two teams meet again Saturday in Jamestown at 3:30 p.m.
