Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Council has approved a blizzard and snow emergency declaration, begining with the snow event on December 12, 2022 and continuing several weeks, with the recovery period still ongoing.

The declaration authorizes the submission of the necessary documentation to the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services to seek federal and state financial assistance.

Also on the Special Meeting agenda, the council discussed whether to accept an NDDOT grant for pedestrian bridge repairs at McElroy, Nickeus, and Klaus Parks, approved for Jamestown for 80 percent up to 1 million dollars. Cost estimates around 1.6 million dollars to replace all three bridges. The city engineer says the NDDOT will allow the city to bid for replacing all 3 bridges, with McElroy park’s bridge being an alternative.

The city will be able to choose to replace only the Klaus, and Nickeus bridges. Mayor Heinrich added that the city’s portion of the cost would be paid for a city-wide special assessment.

The City Council voted unanimously to to put the item on the calendar for the 2024 season.
