Harry Himmerich, age 88, of Valley City, ND, died Thursday, March 16th at SMP Health-St. Raphael in Valley City. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 20th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City in the spring.
Harry was born on a farm near Rogers, ND, to Jacob and Mathilda (Everding) Himmerich. He was one of eight children. Harry graduated from Rogers High School in 1953. After high school, he attended the North Dakota State School of Science at Wahpeton, graduating in 1957. He worked primarily in the Valley City area for most of his life, starting with KXJB early on, living in the same house in Valley City for over 60 years. For his entire life Harry was an avid roller skater, dancer, as well as a bowler in more leagues than one would want to count, leading to him being inducted into the North Dakota State Bowling Hall of Fame. Most people who knew him, knew him as someone who could fix absolutely anything, and was willing to help anyone he could.
Harry is survived by his children Shaun Himmerick (Kristen), Chicago IL; Shari Himmerick, Fargo ND; his granddaughter Stella Himmerick; brother, Alton Himmerich of Valley City, ND; and sister, Darlene Friestad, Valley City. Step daughters Suzanne Anderson, Audrey Steinhaus, Teresa Mertz, and Jennifer Adams.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Robert and Ephraim, and his sisters Betty, Janet, and Carol, and his first wife Phyllis and second wife Doris.
Memorials are preferred donate to the Barnes County Senior Services or Meals on Wheels in Valley City, where Harry spent many years volunteering his time. Donations can be made by check and sent to Barnes County Senior Services, PO Box 298, Valley City, ND 58072.
